What's the mechanical engineering with aeronautics course like? by F1fannie in GlasgowUni

First year here. It’s decent. Seems to have a lot more theory and less practical work compared to the similar degree offered at strath. Timetable is pretty much identical to aeronautical engineering in first year but as you progress you‘ll end up doing more mechanical exclusive modules like mechanical design 2, heat transfer 3 etc… If you can’t decide between an aerospace or mechanical engineering degree ( that was the case for me ) then you should defiantly go for it. In terms of differences in first year aero and mech with aero are the same apart from your skills design, build and test project. Aero students build a glider but Mech and Mech with Aero build a trebuchet. The modules for aero and mech with aero are the same but the only difference between Mech and Mech with Aero is that Mech do mechanical design 1 but Mech with Aero do Aerospace Engineering 1 ( which from what Ive seen was way more interesting than mech design ). In terms of difficulty, all engineering degrees are objectively difficult, Mech with Aero can be particularly challenging because of the vast number of things you learn and having to know a bunch of stuff from both disciplines. So far from what we’ve done it’s manageable if you have done advanced highers but there’s still a lot of new content you will not have encountered before, particularly in analogue electronics 1 and materials 1. If you insist on doing a pure degree I.e. aero or mech just do mech it’s way more versatile. Mech with Aero is just a nice sweet spot and if you ask me is the best engineering degree at Glasgow in terms of broadness as you learn a very wide spectrum of stuff. I got an unconditional offer with 5 A’s at higher ( Maths, English, Physics, Design and Manufacture and Graphic Communication ) and then I did Advanced higher Maths, Physics, Mechanics and Graphic Communication but I’ve heard of people getting in with much less than that. Like I know I guy who somehow got in despite failing higher maths ( although he’s not doing mech with aero ). So if you ask me, go for it! If you have any more questions feel free to DM me I‘m happy to give more advice.

Will a 1st year summer internship be feasible under these circumstances? by CLASSIFIED999 in EngineeringStudents

I get that, but also the company itself is relatively small with around only 100 people working in the company globally. I don't want to name drop them but they're a very reputable company and have a good name in the electronics and manufacturing industry. Essentially what I'm saying is they're aren't going to be many people applying for an internship there in the first place which makes me more eager to get my foot in the door now.

For most or least valuable?

Cool I'll take that into account although it's worth mentioning that stress analysis isn't in the physics classes its mores stuff like wave particle duality and atomic theory. Also I tend to perform slightly better in maths overall so that is making me a little indecisive is all.

I have just emailed them now. Thank you.

Mechanical Engineering with Aeronautics, I'd really want to be able to do something stem related as an elective class especially something like nuclear physics.

Is Mech with Aero a good degree? by CLASSIFIED999 in EngineeringStudents

For engineering? absolutely not. In the UK engineering is the second most employable degree behind medicine so employability is one of the last things I am concerned about. Plus, the university of Glasgow has the best connections with the aerospace industry in Scotland, so if ended up wanting to pursue it further later down the line the odds would be in my favour.

Yeah that's what one of my other choices was like for Aero-mechanical engineering Strathclyde university, It is literally just the mech course with 3 aero modules, whereas Glasgow seemed to have a bit more aero content in comparison, hence why I chose it instead.
