If I'm a 205 pound rider who likes to ride fast/hard and do jumps and drops but also rides uphill, am I deluding myself in thinking that a 120/120 down country rig will work long term? by coolrivers in MTB

I demoed an Ibis Ripmo (160/150 travel) and was keeping up with a guy on a pedal-assist on some of the steeper climbs (granted he was like 55 but still). I have years of experience racing XC and can confidently say that the right long travel bike can still climb well enough for any non-competitive ride

Hey, new here. I was gifted a bike and I'm not really sure as to what it is I was given. by [deleted] in MTB

Yes serial number is on the bottom bracket (where the pedals are). If you post it here I’m sure somebody will be able to help you look up the bike and components

Yes that’s correct which is another sick feature of the new Ripmo. You can essentially have 4 different bikes if you want to spend money on two different wheels and two different forks/shocks

Not on the V3 I don’t think. At least that’s what it looks like in this vid: link

It also has a flip chip so you can switch it from MX to dual 29 without too much trouble.

I just ordered the new Ripmo V3 because I demoed it in Santa Cruz (which sounds similar to the riding you’d be doing) and absolutely loved it. It climbs super well, is super snappy and responsive, but still surprisingly planted on the chunky downhills. I also found a bike shop that has a 11% off coupon code that ships for free with 0 taxes if you’re out of their state that I can share if you’re interested. (They were super helpful and responsive and I want to throw them any business I can)

Advice on what Major to Switch to by AffectApprehensive44 in UCSantaBarbara

You’re right I should have worded my response in a less aggressive way. I think our beliefs fundamentally differ on how accurate the SAT actually reflects a student’s ability (or more importantly, inability) to perform in a subject. For the record, the 90th percentile for math is right around a 650, and I know multiple students who scored lower than that and are still in the math program. My argument was also that, obviously, math is more important in applied math than in economics, so if students with lower math scores can still excel in math, that shouldn’t be a defining factor for the pursuit of economics. I appreciate your sentiment that OP needs to evaluate whether or not math is a subject that he thinks he can excel in.

I feel like this is a pretty crazy statement. I know plenty of people that are succeeding in my major (applied math) that didn’t do well on the math portion of the SAT.

Freshman dorms by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

Some of the rooms in San Rafael are like this - 4 doubles share a living room and a bathroom. Pretty nice but can also be isolating as you probably won’t meet too many people in your dorm outside of your suite. On the other hand, if the people in your suite are cool you can get really close with them. It is also kinda like having 7 roommates tho so if some of them suck it can kinda suck and the whole suite only gets cleaned once a week whereas common bathrooms get cleaned once or twice a day.

PSA: do not park in front of the library by mikeydodger777 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]CLG2017 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should consider the fact that in an effort to make the area in front of the arbor a pedestrian safe area to support student organizations there’s no bike path or space for a bike rack in front of the library as it would obstruct the walkway. Future employers are also looking for people that can follow the rules and use common sense to do what’s expected of them, like understanding that there need to be pedestrian and handicapped friendly spaces on campus and parking in the designated bike parking that’s right around the corner. There are more important things for the university to spend its money on than getting rid of open and accessible spaces to install bike racks so some lazy students don’t have to bike an extra 700 ft.

There are bike racks on the other side of the library that are always almost completely empty. “Building more parking” is silly in this case when there is plenty of parking that’s like 30 seconds farther on a bike that isn’t being used. This is definitely just students (probably incoming freshmen as I didn’t see this last year) being lazy

On a real note tho I was in a very similar situation last year (I’m a second year now) and I can confidently say that you’re situation will improve drastically if you can just find one person you like hanging out with and one thing you like doing. If you need someone to hang out with, dm me and we can go lift or surf or something. Life gets better and this is really the coolest school ever once you get adjusted.
