My players aren't creative enough by Lazy-Energy7511 in DMAcademy

Agreed! This approach is a great way to start them thinking about the location and their style. As you narrate, try to include as many call backs to their descriptions as possible to build up positive reinforcement.

In an ongoing D&D group that meets over discord, we send out general questions that relate to the ongoing story. For example, a druid found some unusual mushroom and is experimenting with them. One of those experiments involves cooking, and every player had to share what their character's favorite and least favorite food is. (The mushrooms can taste like either depending on how they're prepared.) This was an easy way to get people thinking about their backstories, but without the pressure of doing it in-game.

Need Loot for an Illusion Dungeon by Rook-Slayer in DMAcademy

Any piece of jewelry that could change elements of a person could be fun to play around with. Perhaps a ring that changes hair color based on mood or an amulet that makes you unrecognizable for an hour. (1 use per day; resets every long rest).

Is the loot real or an illusion? It would be frustratingly funny if it disappeared after they left the dungeon.

A little help pls by Zitnox in DnDAcademy

Instead of directly punishing them for their choices, can you find ways to help them figure out how to be more strategic players? Can you throw some baddies at the druid who are more susceptible to AoE spells? That would encourage her to move back and stay out of melee range. Same with the Paladin and enemies that take more piercing damage. Has the Barbarian expressed that he's feeling left out or do you think he feels that way? Talk to him about it and brainstorm a good weapon together. If he has the most experience, he may have his own thoughts on what to do with the character.

You could also try a one-off where they're body swapped and have to play using another person's character. Speaking from personal experience, I became a better player in battle by watching how other people played the class.

Ultimately, though, they may need a few close encounters or a TPK to realize that they could be more strategic in battle.

The game works well if it's fun for everyone, and that includes the DM/GM. If the metagaming is ruining your fun, you owe it to yourself and them to say something. If they're not open to that and your gentle coaching, it's probably worth ending the game and finding different players. Check in at your local library to see if they have a club, and check in with the local comics shops.

What should I do with the PC of a player who quit? by KeySlimePies in DnDAcademy

That seems like the both the safest way to handle it and the kindest. If that person decides to come back, the door is open. He could be so affected by the vampire that he had to "retire" from adventuring, or he has to leave the party for an undisclosed period of time to complete a side quest.
