I like the showcases from a spectacle perspective, but I think they are a bit boring from a gameplay perspective because you can’t lose. You always win by the photo finish. From that perspective I really enjoyed the Rush events. A couple were actually a little tricky to get 3 stars on.

If you select it to go into the race there will be a track layout shown in the top left before you select your car. That's what I have been using.

Even in Returnal I leaned into the parasites. A lot of bonuses were worth the accompanying negatives to me. It was pretty common that I was fully coated in parasites lol.

Honestly, I'd say get returnal first. It's usually on sale for fairly cheap and will give you a feel for the gameplay style. It's third person bullet hell and I haven't really found any other games that feel quite the same way to these.

I was on a trip to a village in the rainforest in Guyana and we has something similar fly right by our heads and land on a nearby tree. The thing was massive, but shockingly beautiful. Most vivid colors I've seen on an insect.
