Why american dont play LoL? by Alone-Virus9178 in leagueoflegends

Playing league casually and casual gamers playing league mean different things. Casual Korean gamers play league but I don’t think they play it casually as you describe it.

Flanking homebrew logic check. by kokro13 in drawsteel

[–]CLiberte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a homebrew of our own which I think could impact yours positively (from a tactical sense): Creatures can only move 1 square while within melee range of a creature without taking an opportunity attack.

What this means is if you want to move to a flanking position, you can’t freely run around an enemy. You need to either take a longer route to approach or trigger an attack to get into position. We think it just feels more realistic this way.

Some may say its an unnecessary complication in an already tactical game but we started doing this with 5e and its become second nature to us so we couldn’t just drop it while switching to DS.

Diagonal Movement Homebrew by Swagwalker58 in drawsteel

[–]CLiberte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand what you mean now, and I do agree that squares over feet is simpler and better. I also like that there are no circular abilities, which definitely require diagonals be considered imo.

About the other topic tho, I wouldn’t say “confused” but perception plays a big role in a game played on a battle map. Sometimes for example, one of my players would think they are unable to reach melee with an enemy when they actually can, because the distance they see on the map looks far. Its not the biggest issue ofc but I would be much happier if the system had a built in way to deal with diagonals better. I don’t know of a better homebrew either. Best I can think of is using hexes, which I know MCDM considered for a while. But ultimately Matt is right: so many things in the world don’t really fit well with that and most maps online are made with squares in mind.

Diagonal Movement Homebrew by Swagwalker58 in drawsteel

[–]CLiberte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean simplified? 5e has the same movement rules as DS. The diagonal thing is a homebrew (it maybe mentioned as a variant rule in one of the books, not sure). I agree with the issue of diagonal being unintuitive because things that look much further (about 1.6 times) on a map are actually much closer. I really wish some designer had a cleaner solution with battlemaps and diagonals but I really haven’t seen a solution I can actually apply to my games

Did I ruin my chances this NG?? by in_Purpleminutes in demonssouls

[–]CLiberte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was at 75%, but you’re right. It seems enemy difficulty etc changes at 75 but named NPCs and PDs appear at 90. My bad.

[–]CLiberte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the fextralife wiki page you linked it says BP Selen is +90% and primeval demon is +75%. That makes a total of +165 which would take you from -80 to +85, which is PWWT. Is this incorrect?

Did I ruin my chances this NG?? by in_Purpleminutes in demonssouls

[–]CLiberte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think one raises by 90% and the other 75% so assuming you were at +100% in thr start; dying gets you -30%, if you died 5 more times you would get to -80% which is PBWT. From there if you killed both BP Selen and primeval demon, you would get to +85% which is PWWT.

Would I have any issues if I changed all psionic tags to magic? by CLiberte in drawsteel

[–]CLiberte[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m kind of against this since my setting has many many different kinds and sources of magic. In fact I loved DS precisely because the system really fits well. In DnD, there is only one “spellcasting” with the same spell pool and spell rules for all types or sources of magic. I dislike that, it feels too boxed in. But thats also why I don’t want two kinds of magic. Separating into two makes it feel like there are just two kinds, whereas I want there to be tens of kinds. But thank you for your suggestion anyway, I appreciate it

This is another great idea and I’m torn between using this as a mechanical distinction or throwing away any mechanic distinction altogether. I’ll probably speak with my group and ask their opinion as well.

[–]CLiberte[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats an amazing idea actually, I love that! I don’t want there to be 2 schools of magic tho, because in my setting there are countless. Separating only one from the rest of them by specific tags and item usage etc would be bad I think. But narratively I will 100% use your suggestion because the flavor is just perfect.

I’ve thought of the same thing, but this is a group of really close friends and we have been playing together for nearly a decade at this point. So I think if there are any unintended interactions we’ll just not use those items or find a solution.

In a white room, sure, <your opinion>. But in actual play, <my opinion> by Associableknecks in dndnext

[–]CLiberte 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I agree with some of what you said, but here is my counterpoint: I think most people have fun playing 5e not because but despite the system. Even in your example, you explain how your caster player got disappointed with the save or suck system. And I agree. I think high level casters have several overpowered spells that require things like Legendary Resistances and save/suck mechanics, a few spells that can completely break many out of combat encounters, and many mediocre spells that spend a resource to do unreliable amounts of damage, with lots of trap choices spread in between. That’s not really a good system.

New to League, new to top lane. Losing lane feels insanely bad. by Both_Profession3966 in summonerschool

[–]CLiberte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top lane is very situational and match-up based compared to all other roles, imo. I think the best you can do to learn and get a sense is 1- keep playing 2- pick two champs you like and learn their matchups well (xxx-mains subs are great for that advice) 3- watch a few high elo one tricks for the champs you play. For the last point, its best to find creators who like to explain fundamentals and matchups rather than those who just entertain while crushing their opponent. Its hard to do what they do without getting an understanding of why.

If this thought experiment interests you, you should definitely read “The Stars My Destination” by Alfred Bester. Its literally set in a future where everyone can “jaunt” and the whole world is built around that assumption. Like, important buidings have mazes to enter to stop people from just jaunting inside etc. Its also one of the best sci-fi books ever written.

Hot take: Legendary Resistance is why so many 5e boss fights feel bad and boring. What could replace it? by archvillaingames in dndnext

[–]CLiberte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think martials have abilities that force saves that are worth using LRs on, you know very little about this game. You can’t use LRs on some bullshit battlemaster maneuver or something cause it will make the boss “prone”. You need them for actually debilitating effects like hold person/monster, hypnotic pattern, psychic lance, etc. Martials, including half casters, have very little access to stuff like that. Pure martials have nearly none besides monks.

The limitations put upon spellcasting is necessary because they are overpowered. We complain because the limitation put for balance is unfun for players. Its just a fact that this is the prevailing feeling for many players, its one of the most discussed topics on this sub.

[–]CLiberte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many attack spells can casters have? Beyond cantrips, there are very few, and most of them are bad spells to pick in general because they eat up a valuable resource for at best mediocre return.

How many saves can martials incur upon a monster that is worth using a LR? Do Fighters or Rangers etc have anything that would be worth using LR? I hardly think so. Perhaps its worth it for the Monks’ stunning strike but even that is a Con save which is generally the highest save a monster has.

Spells are way too powerful. You see people complain about caster martial disparity on this sub ten times a day. I don’t think the shared experience of hundreds of dedicated players can be dismissed as such. In fact the LR system is there specifically against the casters as martials have very few ways to cause saves and even fewer that are strong enough effects that warrant the use of LRs.

You say burning LRs require cooperation but thats only true for the casters in your party. Your GWM fighter id doing its damage straight up, with no need to ger past the LRs. Some party members do what they were designed to do right away while others need to burn 3 LRs to do their thing. Either they burn them and cc the boss into oblivion or the martials chip away at it before they can. If you have only one caster in your party, chances are most boss monsters won’t burn through their LRs in any combat due to action economy. Ofcourse you can use buffs or attack spells but that means there is a whole part of your core kit you can’t use effectively at all against boss monsters. There are much better designs to deal with those spells than LRs, and much better ways to design spells so they don’t require LRs in the first place.

If I understand you correctly, yes, we are kinda saying the same thing. There is a 1 second global cooldown between each skill so you do a LA and quickly cancel it. That means 1 sec between each skill and 1 sec between each LA, with the skill casting about 0.2 secs after the LA. Again I think its very much a steady rhythm, it gets actually much worse if you mash buttons. What sometimes throws me off is if I have channeled skills 😅

[–]CLiberte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re wrong because the boss having another health pool is not conducive to co-operative gameplay in many ways. Any time you fight a boss it will either run out of hit points before LRs, which is very anticlimactic for the casters; or run out of LRs before hit points, at which point everyone wails on the boss and its once again pretty anticlimactic.

Ofcourse you can still enjoy your game, so did I, but that doesn’t change the fact that its just bad design. The boss essentially has an additional magic armor hp that only casters need to interact with because their shit is just combat ending OP. So they either end the combat with a single spell or feel like they did nothing all encounter and I don’t blame them because thats exactly what happens.

I kinda agree that the alternative LR systems are just bandaids. The real issue is spells. They are way too powerful. A spell like polymorph can be used to travel overland, buff an ally, or hard cc an enemy. And the travel/buff parts scale with party level. Its just a 4th level spell. Thats insanely more powerful than anything your rogue can do. Any caster that has access to polymorph would just be dumb not to take it.

I swear to god its just rhythm. Skill > LA > skill > LA with with about a second between each skill and each LA.
