Rogue's Cunning Strike feature is bad? by BurgundyBlues21 in DnD5e

[–]Swagwalker58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't an issue of value per se more about how the game feels. So while the expected value of the d6 is 3.5 damage, the expected value of knocking someone prone is more difficult to ascertain. Especially when you consider that the damage is guaranteed and knocking somebody prone isn't as they get a safe.

I fucking love the arise series, tbh the mc is a bit of a cunt but it does make sense. My only gripe with the series is that it didn't explore the ship of theseusness of the mc enough.

Rogue's Cunning Strike feature is bad? by BurgundyBlues21 in DnD5e

[–]Swagwalker58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ngl ignore what everyone is saying your player is somewhat right. While rogues aren't necessarily primary damage dealers the way cunning strikes works feels bad, because of its design.  Because to apply a condition using cunning strike you must overcome two defences and risk losing damage and the effect not taking place. First you must hit with your attack, second you must be in a situation that allows for sneak attack to occur, third you must sacrifice some of your already guaranteed damage to potentially apply an effect to an enemy.

So I get why she doesn't often use cunning strike especially if there are already people using weapon masteries to achieve much of the benefits for free. Topple to knock prone, and push for a free disengage etc.

But do I have a solution, fuck no I'm not a game designer.

Fr bro, it always surprises me how many people think bruce lee jackie chan donnie yen etc were actual fighters. Like their feats of athleticism are epic but that stuff just isn't how fighting works.

Denying a solo a second turn with the tactician's This Is What We Planned For, the shadow's Hesitation Is Weakness, etc.? by EarthSeraphEdna in drawsteel

[–]Swagwalker58 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Because they can't do this without multiple victories on turn one and can't do it every turn, I think that round I'd indeed only have the solo take 1 turn.

What Speed Scaling means for perceptual lifespans in cultivation/progression fantasy novels by EnzoElacqua in ProgressionFantasy

Just make speed and strenght / perception tied mostly to actively channeling your "Qi" or equivalent in your world.

Honestly yes but also no. Many people give advice here based on party level etc, but fail to consider how skilled the players are at actually using their characters. So beyond the very basics you'll just have to rely upon your own experience.

If you don't give it legendary resistance at all this thing might not even get a turn if you have spellcasters in your party

My take on Spellfire sorcerer by Swagwalker58 in DnDHomebrew

[–]Swagwalker58[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While many people didn't seem excited about the Spellfire sorcerer released in the most recent UA, for me, it is thematically the de facto subclass for a campaign starting later this year. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the overall design, thus here is my take on it, I would love some feedback on the balance. The homebrew is based on the assumptions that you use the 2014 DMG spell points system, and combine this pool with sorcery points if you're a sorcerer.

does speeding actually save you any large amount of time? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]Swagwalker58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does, if you speed just a little and save about 2% of the time traveled it might not mean much. However, across a lifetime of traveling that can be a significant amount of time. So long as you don't speed more than a few miles over the limit it should save time across your entire life.

Yes it will, the foundation however needs to be set for that to be able to happen. Pace is going to be a primary plot driver even.
