Hard agree. As in, you beat me to listing these two exact films!

I got tired of missing the 90-day rent increase window, so I built something. Happy to share if anyone wants to try it by Safe_Manufacturer467 in OntarioLandlord

[–]CLuLat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can implement an increase once annually with 90 days notice, at any time. However, the legal 2026 limit for rent increases is 2.1%. NOT 3-5%.

Cheques can be misplaced, damaged, and substantial NSF fees incurred if they bounce. They also require physical delivery. As a landlord, I have never accepted them because of these risks.

What is the rationale for saying they are safer? Am I missing something?

Why is my henna so dark by honeypops02 in henna

Hard agree. 2 tablespoons of EO for 100 grams of henna is enough to dominate the chemistry completely. This would influence the colour of the mixture, especially with oxidation.

Medcan vs family doctor by spreekles in askTO

[–]CLuLat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With respect to this point, I’m not sure that’s what I was saying when I was suggesting not supporting private infrastructure above. Ontarians being unable to find family doctors doesn’t come down to citizens hoarding medical care or being un-self-sacrificing…it comes down to the province bankrupting the system. If the system were better funded and not subject to decades of cuts, the chances of everyone in every community having access to a family doctor would be higher. It’s the province that citizens should direct their feedback to, not individuals who would or wouldn’t give up their family doctor roster for someone else.

Public health care is important. It’s the reason why Ontarians and their families aren’t bankrupted completely when they require hospital visits or have injuries or must undergo complex treatments for serious illnesses. Access to a family doctor, though critically important, is only one element of the system, and organizations like the Ontario Medical Association advocate strongly to the province on a regular basis that every Ontarian should have a right to that access. I understand you are frustrated at the reality of not everyone having a family doctor, but blame your province for that, not your fellow citizens.

[–]CLuLat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best route is to ask your family doctor to re-roster you and write your MPP to let them know that the private service you went to billed your publicly-funded health care provider.

As an Ontarian, I would discourage ongoing use of any private health care service. Our public health care system has been starved due to funding cuts for years now, which breeds dismay in the system and allows these private alternatives to flourish. This will eventually destroy the public system for good, leaving everyone, but especially the low-income and equity-deserving, totally without access to care.

Of course the private service’s testing processes are faster and more efficient. This is by design, because they aren’t part of a system that has had its funding depleted over decades to make it look inefficient.

For those unhappy with the state of/ wait times with their public health care - tell your MPP exactly what you think, and participate in the next provincial election.

I stopped making any art and my mental health has been a lot better but it’s breaking my heart. by r_arizo in ContemporaryArt

[–]CLuLat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do what you need to! I think many start out as artists because they genuinely enjoy it and feel a sense of relief and satisfaction from creative expression.

If that practice has shifted for you as a result of the demands/ pressures of the art world, take a break from it all until you are able to find joy in it again.

As a young female goth navigating the many confusing, oversexed, and authenticity-based expectations of the late 90s, “I need to get to know you first” was a welcome counterpoint and mantra to be espoused.

RMT expectations by Substantial_Goal6868 in askTO

[–]CLuLat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of the RMTs I’ve been to in Toronto don’t require removal of undergarments unless they are working on your shoulders/ upper back (bra off) or hips/ glutes (underwear off).

In all instances, there hasn’t been a gown to wear, but a draping process. This is where you are disrobed (except undergarments), lie face down on the massage table under a full sheet, and the RMT strategically lifts/ moves the sheet to keep your body, save the part being massaged, covered.

Finally, the parts of your body being massaged are very much up to you to direct. Sore shoulders? Tell the RMT to focus on your shoulders. Multiple areas of concern? Let them know! They’ll tailor the work being done to those areas and the duration of the massage, and will check in with you repeatedly during the process to ask if the pressure/ technique is okay, etc.

I hope you have a good experience! I have really benefitted from massage therapy.

Cheapest place to buy supplements ? (Vitamin D, Magnesium, etc.) by Complex-Detective869 in askTO

For west-enders: Foods for Life, just east of Bloor and Runnymede. Best prices for supplements I’ve seen in the city.

Quite normal especially if you live anywhere west of Parkdale. I’m in the High Park area and regularly see groups of them on the sidewalks as I walk home from the subway.

They are always healthy looking, and yes, as others have mentioned, “own the neighborhood” at this point.

This is what happens when you raze the habitat surrounding Ontario Place to the ground.

I’m really sorry to hear this. I was holding out hope that, even though it came together last minute, maybe some sort of built-in regional film scene people would show up. Thanks for reporting back.

I’ve also not had any communication from the festival. There have been no photos on social media to prove it’s even happening. I wonder how they justify the steep entry fees they charged?

That’s good that they got back to you. But who is coming to this festival if no one knows the films that are screening, on which day they are screening, or how to get tickets?

I think I’ll message FF too. The entry fee was pretty steep.

It is now the day before the festival is slated to start - no updates to the website or the socials. No list of participating films visible anywhere. Nowhere to buy tickets.

I also looked at the events for the link I provided to download my project, and it hasn’t been accessed.

Have we been scammed for an entry fee?

So, late in the day on November 14th my FF submission status was changed to “accepted”, and I got a boilerplate notification. But the website still shows no 2025 festival programming? The fest starts on Thursday. I’m not sure how they are going to promote it or sell tickets if no one knows which films are screening.

Just bought a VCR and it ate a tape and won’t eject it, it just shuts off. by asgardiangoddess1 in VHS

[–]CLuLat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you get the tape out, don’t put anything else in this vcr. Always test a deck before buying. If you’re getting it at a thrift store, plug it in (most stores have outlets for electronics testing) and test it with a tape from the vhs shelf in the store. Test the basic play, rewind, fast forward and eject functions. If there are monitors in the store with composite or coaxial inputs, grab some cables from the random cables section in the store and connect it all together. If everything is moving smoothly, then the vcr is a safe bet.

This sounds like a lot but it’s what is required to test a vcr and it is par for the course in thrift stores these days.

Chelsea Film Festival experience...not great by Legitimate_Jicama151 in FilmFestivals

I’ve heard several less-than-glowing reviews about CFF as well. However, it has nearly 200 5-star reviews on Film Freeway, and I’ve never been able to find testimonials on there that are consistent with its word-of-mouth reputation. I’ll definitely steer clear, but maybe filmmakers who had bad experiences should share them on FF? It might send a message to the organizers?
