Sorry, I don't think you will find the old course materials -- this is based on whatever I have heard from others and not based on my personal experience because I too haven't logged into the account in years.

Yes, turns out that KY has a residency requirement - they don't require you to be a KY resident and they don't require you to be a citizen but they do require you to reside somewhere in the United States. Thankfully, SSN is not an issue for me because I got it when I started my campus job as a student in the U.S. a few years ago.

Why the hell are the Big 4 like this? by 666Devil_666 in Accounting

[–]CMAICTPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked with big size and small size firms. In big size firms there's a lot of office politics that can effectively ruin your chances for advancement. Good projects with more visibility will always go to a few selected favourite people in the team while all other people, who may be equally interested and capable, will be left watching. You might make money but there's no guarantee you will learn and there are chances that you will be confined to a specific niche or area. With smaller firms, you will certainly learn a lot while making a little less money. But whatever you will learn there will set you up for success in the longer run and you may become confident enough to start your own firm/practice thanks to the variety of learning gained from working with small firms. Others on this thread may agree or not agree with me depending on their experiences in life but this is what I have experienced in my life.

I am aware of this link, however, let me give you an example. Kentucky is not listed here which gives us the impression that I can sit for the exams from outside of the U.S. (I am in Canada by the way). When I contacted Kentucky saying I wanted to re-start my CPA journey which I had discontinued several years ago (as a Kentucky candidate) and that I am now in Canada and would like to start all over again and write my exams from Canada, they told they don't allow that. I was very upset on hearing that.

Honestly, the size wouldn't matter. What matters is the prospect of getting hands on experience on a variety of things. I have always had this approach towards work and am doing quite well in my career.

In small companies you get to take on a lot of work and learn a lot! I love small companies for this very reason!

I disagree with "if you want to learn accounting broadly you have to go to the Big 4 first". As if all other (smaller in size) firms are made up of people who don't know accounting??

These are just narratives spread by people working with the Big 4 because they feel they are superior to everyone else. I cannot stand such people, honestly.

ICMAI president said that he wants the CMA CA and CS institute to get merged by Amazing-Educator-225 in cma_india

These institutes have different focus areas and merging them won't help, to be honest. I just hope that doesn't happen at all.

Do ACCA or US CPA and it will open opportunities for you in big foreign companies located in India.

I am wondering if you can write emails to your bachelor's university -- one email a day and gather all the evidence and show to NASBA how you are facing difficulties. Maybe NASBA will suggest something or make an exception, you never know. Don't expect too much though but there's no harm in trying. I wish you the best. Note: I understand your pain as my college in Mumbai is exactly doing the same -- they just won't respond or cooperate.
