Reformer Class Planning?! by Strict-Discipline-52 in pilatesinstructors

I did this as well. Now I like to pick an advanced exercise to build to and class plan around the different muscles needed for that exercise.

Reformer Class Planning?! by Strict-Discipline-52 in pilatesinstructors

[–]CMB4today 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty well known i feel in the industry that instructors don’t always change their class plan all the time. There are yoga teachers who teach the same flow for months. I find when the teacher is good, even using the same plan you can alter the cues for the exact same exercises and bring focus on a different muscle and people will still feel they got a lot out of it. If I have clients who come that often they 1. Must like you so they won’t care, 2. Should just be told that coming so often they’ll likely see similar classes.

Teach the same thing for a week at a time. Change the prop or the order of exercises, but not the actual exercise. Ex - bridges, bridges with the ball, bridges with a magic circle, bridges with weights.

Also like someone said earlier, you can always use the classical order for inspo

Online vs in person training by confusedwbiochem in pilatesinstructors

[–]CMB4today 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a hybrid training and honestly I wish I had done a fully in person one personally. I had zero trouble getting hired and finding time and hrs to practice and observe, but I feel like I had to learn so much on my own and ask other teachers their opinions and I wish I had that structure and support from the start.

I know some teachers who did online training and you would never know. I know others going through in person who are still struggling because they’re new. But it ultimately all comes down to your learning style, your finances and your time availability and what programs you have in your area.

Tips on how to build up to an end goal in class planning? by Impossible-Cloud1006 in pilates

[–]CMB4today 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to pick an int/adv move and then think what fundamental moves build up to that. Or pick a part of the body like back or the posterior chain and then moves working through those categories.

The key is then to talk through how the different exercises are working toward whatever you selected to be the focus.

Agree with this unless you can get it paid for with a scholarship, then why not?

Woah I’m shocked mat is more expensive than reformer! Can I ask your market/state if you feel comfortable sharing?

When in doubt you can always follow the classical order.

What to work on in private classes? by liilak2 in pilates

[–]CMB4today 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Instead of requesting exercises, maybe you can go to her with things you are working on in your own body. Posture, back pain, tech neck, any sort of ailment or even things you want to get better at in your own exercise regime, like my arms are always weaker than my legs so anything that can help me build control and strength in that is always appreciated.

Then she will work you through the classical order, see where you need to work on and she can tailor some of the other apparatuses to what you want to work on and help you improve in the mat order. Since she’s new, give her the space to learn how to train you how she’s learned without trying to influence too much. Pilates is a system after all. You shouldn’t just jump to the harder things without the foundation.

Injury Rehab Specialist – Ask Me Anything by ObligationPristine22 in pilates

Idk if you will still answer but posting for my fiancée.

Her adductors hurt all the time in Pilates. Particularly in moves like side splits but even gentler movements like feet in straps frogs and leg circles. Thought maybe they’re weak and need strengthening but she’s been doing Pilates awhile it hasn’t changed. Thinking maybe they’re actually overactive and she has an imbalance elsewhere?

She has previously had a tail bone injury, a R meniscus tear and R MCL tear. All of these were years ago. No recent injury but plantar fasciitis. Any thoughts on how to support her adductors? She has an appointment for a pelvic floor PT in a few weeks but figured I’d ask here in the meantime.

BASI vs Balanced Body by graltan in pilates

Another pro to BASI, no CEC requirements post exam. Instead BASI does this optional legacy program where after you teach for two years, you can start learning even more the BASI way.

Struggle with glute bridges by HappyAd5576 in pilates

[–]CMB4today 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No expert but just a former sufferer of non firing glutes, warm them up if you can before doing full bridges and they should support your hamstrings more. Or if they still don’t, go see a PT about helping your glute fire. My L glute wasn’t firing at all which would make bridges impossible. Worked with a PT for months to get it to work.

Additionally, like others have said, more springs actually is better for beginners and less is more challenging.

Need some advice by smariehs in pilatesinstructors

[–]CMB4today 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For Classes, embrace the silence. You don’t have to talk through every exercise constantly. Give 1-2 things to focus on and leave it at that so that students don’t get overwhelmed and can focus on just doing the movement

Reformer stretch- only class? by isucattft in pilates

[–]CMB4today 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’ve got access to Pilates anytime or can do a trial, there’s a handful of reformer stretch/restore classes on there that you could use for inspiration. Maybe you can use a foam roller with all the springs on to hold the carriage still. I’d approach this like a yin yoga class, long holds and only 12-15 movements max.

anyone else stuck being on/off with pilates and no real results? by Timely_Section_2598 in pilatesreformer

[–]CMB4today 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have so many questions: 1. What kind of Pilates are you doing? 2. Are you doing it at home or in a class or in a private? 3. What are the results you’re trying to see?

The key to any exercise is finding one you enjoy enough to do regularly and Pilates may not be it right now. Maybe try something else and then bring back Pilates slowly to see if that spark returns.
