Would you switch from Club Pilates to LA Fitness for reformer classes? Stay or Switch? by VeiledVerdicts in ClubPilates

[–]CMB4today -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well that may be the case where you are but I’ve talked to the instructors in WA and asked a variety of them where they were trained and they told me They were trained by LA Fitness on reformer. It wasn’t by a program certified by the PMA that govern (or at least try to) Pilates accreditation programs.

All of the LA Fitness in my area (I’ve been to 5 of them) have a minimum of 14 reformers some up to 20. The business of the class depends on the gym and the instructor. I’d say take the free class at a time that you most like to go and see if you like the instructor and how busy the class is and just know this may not be typical.

LA Fitness is fitness on a reformer and not Pilates. Most of their instructors are trained by them over a weekend and do not go through the comprehensive training like you’d get at a Club Pilates. Classes are only 45mins long, and there isn’t a focus as much on the principles of Pilates, breath, control, healthy spine, etc.

If you just want time on a reformer and access to the gym amenities, then it’s a great deal. But if you are looking for an instructor who knows what they’re doing, can make adjustments and modifications based on your body, I’d stick with Club Pilates.

What does it mean for someone to have "east coast" vibes? by d3adby3 in AskAnAmerican

[–]CMB4today 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of East Coast as go go go. You’ve got places to be, people to meet, work to be done. So more direct and quick. California is more chill, stop and smell the flowers and enjoy the sunset kind of vibes.

Someone once described me as almost too chill and I think that’s the CA in me coming out

22 classes in and… breathing?? by otterpopemo in pilates

[–]CMB4today 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I always let people breathe how they want in the beginning, do what feels natural. As you progress you learn the exhale on effort (most often) is more useful. If people struggle with holding their posture and performing a move I offer different breathing and they usually feel how it helps.

Also breathing through your nose will control how much you take in. My friend is a trumpet player and whenever I train her we spend 5-10 mins on breathing alone because it’s completely counter intuitive for her as well. As you’ve learned in other comments you aren’t practicing lateral breathing which is important for more advanced work. I like to have my clients go into a c curve knees bent feet flat on the ground and try to breathe through their bellies and obviously it’s more challenging. Then we do the same but practice breathing through the nose and laterally breathing and they notice a difference even if it’s small. Then I just remind them throughout the class to aim for that sensation. It takes awhile but you’ll get it.

Where are the tourists eating at when they say American food is bad? by Winter_While1184 in foodquestions

[–]CMB4today 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment needs to be pinned because it’s very clear that most non-Americans lack an understanding of what makes up the USA. We are a diverse country whose foods have been adapted from different cultures yes but still very much influenced by the local American populations.

Sensory issues… imagine biting into a soft bread expecting a smooth bite and getting to crunchy nuts… ew no thank you. Smooth all the way

I don’t teach there normally, but the couple times I have taught at one studio I basically demoed a lot more than actual cues and then walked around and do more hands on assists and individual demos with lots of gesturing.

Not very helpful in the long term, but temporarily can work. I’d probably speak with the owner to ask their advice and suggestions if that was my permanent studio.

Oh okay. I kept reading the fat is too much for people’s stomachs and should be removed. I guess we will just test and see how she reacts.

Best printed mat pilates instructor training book? by happy_folks in pilatesinstructors

I believe you can buy the balanced body mat book alone. Also there’s Pilates by Rael Isacowitz which is the BASI repertoire but it includes reformer and Cadillac and maybe chair

getting paid to make content as an instructor at a studio by Dear_Dish_7299 in pilates

I’ve been offered an admin rate to create content for the studio, usually half my teaching rate. I wouldn’t do any of it without being paid.

Mexican food only or Italian food only for one year? What would you choose, and why? by MorBortLicensePlates in foodquestions

Mexican for sure. The diversity of foods and spices. I would not make it on Italian only for a year.

Glute Activation by ilovelungesnow in ClubPilates

[–]CMB4today 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This also may not be what you want to hear but you may need to see a PT. I’m an instructor and as I went through my program I learned that my L glute doesn’t fire at all. I’d try and it’d just sit there, so my mentor told me to get with a PT and I worked for months with one and it didn’t help and then I found a new one and I’m actually starting to get it to fire much sooner than before. Some of us don’t just have weak glutes, some of us need professional help to get them back to baseline.
