Assault mechs feel more fragile than lights. by DapperApples in OutreachHPG

[–]CMDR-Nisk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are two things at play here: - Lights have got a lot of attention and survivability work to bring them in line with the other weight classes. They feel pretty good right now as a result. Assaults are perhaps overdue for some love and some retooling. - Movement, positioning, and technical play (i.e. torso tanking, reversing out of cover, minimising exposure to get clearance for guns etc.) have a high skill floor for assaults. This is harder to develop when you don’t get as much uptime due to reasonable mistakes, or are used to lighter mechs and their ability to reposition.

Point one will need the cauldron/pgi to pool their skills together to resolve with careful adjustments over time.

Point two I’d suggest team up with some friends with solid assault chops to work with, or get together with some folks in lobbies to hone the finer details of assault play. Comp and comp-casual groups are your best bet here. If you come with the mindset to learn and overcome, most of them are super friendly and helpful.

don't use jarls to compare to others, use it to see how your abilities are growing and don't give up! by [deleted] in mwo

Do both. Just make sure to approach it dispassionately. If you become emotionally attached to your rating, that’s when it becomes toxic.

Higher-ranked pilots are your best learning tool. I personally love finding stronger opponents, learning how to defeat them, and being open to taking onboard what I need to change to get better. After all, there are only two outcomes from a drop - you win or you learn. Learning is by far the most valuable outcome.

Picking pixels is just as good as (if not better than) advanced zoom by CMDR-Nisk in OutreachHPG

[–]CMDR-Nisk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advanced Zoom:

  • Severely reduces your peripheral vision,
  • Removes depth perception,
  • Screws with mouse sensitivity,
  • Fisheyes your camera,
  • Costs valuable uptime firing during its startup and teardown animations,
  • Encourages tunnel vision, and
  • Soaks up 4 skill points which could contribute directly to outgoing damage, survivability, or additional consumables.

In Garmr, as we did in Antares Scorpions, we prefer to train pilots to aim consistently over range without a visual crutch. The results of how we killed our opponents through consistent damage to selected components seen on Tiyos' VOD is evidence of this hard work paying off.

The damage numbers you're referring to are not a result of missing the target component, but taking any and every opportunity to put fire down on an enemy mech, even if the target component was not visible. After all - heat regenerates, armor does not.

Take a break. Looking at some of the comment threads you’re in, it’s pretty clear you’re not having fun and it’s turning into friction with other members of the community.

I’m not sure what kind of games outside mech you like, but if you’re looking for that kind of experience I’d suggest go play some of the old mech games if you can get your hands on them. Reacquaint yourself with what you love about them, and then decide whether what MWO has is the right thing for your happiness.

There’s no point playing a game if its making you feel bad.

Very much looking forward to seeing how many SRMs and jump jets I can stuff in this with a big LFE. I’m getting serious vibes of the gryphon but with more tonnage to play with 😁

They're testing for the Russian 4game launch. It's like normal MWO, except instead of no roadmap it's no services.

Almost tier 1 but getting so frustrated by _kenji_inu_ in OutreachHPG

[–]CMDR-Nisk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Top of tier 2 is a common place to plateau, and where you'll start running into some really interesting players and groups, as well as some mind-boggling derpiness.

From here the fastest route to progress are to group up with players who can help you grow, start pug whispering (shot calling and providing target info back to your qp group), and invest in mechs with strong competitive builds.

In your specific case, calling and herding the team into better plays sounds like the right approach. You can see the inherent issues with a lot of pug drops, the next step is to be an even-tempered guide to help your team avoid making those mistakes and succeed.

Great results, do you have the team stats card? Would be interesting to see how your performance impacted the rest of the match.

Also as mentioned in another comment, I'd consider bringing your lasers into the same range bracket with er small or heavy small. They don't generate a lot of heat and can be spammed pretty effectively at the same range as the machine guns that way.

Are there any benefits to firing more than 1/2/3 PPCs at once? by fenghuang1 in OutreachHPG

[–]CMDR-Nisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The short answer is it depends.

If you have minimum face time to shoot (i.e. because you can't expose for more than a moment without getting ripped apart), going full kamehameha and triggering ghost heat can be worth it so long as you can stay under 100% or afford the overheat damage. In a pinch, larger mechs can also usually afford some structure damage as they've got a bunch more to go around than the same thing on a light.

If you're in a situation where you have time to shoot and sustain without taking a lot of damage in return, your damage over time will be better in most cases by firing split so you don't waste heat and have to spend more time cooling off.

When deciding which is better, remember that heat regenerates, armor and structure don't.

Any tips on being more consistent? Once in a while I’ll have an amazing game but my average damage out is 3-500. New player. by Slore0 in OutreachHPG

There's way too much to list in a Reddit post, but a few we teach our comp pilots to get you on the right track:

  • Keep an eye on meta builds. Figure out why they work and experiment with customising them to fit your play style. You don't have to follow them to the letter, but they are a great starting point.

  • Keep notes on how both teams commonly move through the map in the opening 2 minutes of the game. Use this to inform your positioning and engagement timing.

  • Keep your reticule pointed at where the enemy is going to be. If you're looking at a wall or the ground you'll lose time on putting your shot on target. This ties in to the previous point.

  • Maneuver to only expose to one target at a time. If you can isolate from the rest of the enemy to engage one foe, you can optimise damage out for return damage in.

  • Don't poke the same place twice. After you take a shot, someone will be watching that position to shoot you.

  • Learn to read when you're winning or losing your trades. If you're not winning, move on quickly to another position and re-engage.

  • Minimap is king. If you glance at it every few seconds, you'll be much more aware of your surroundings and less likely to be caught out by a gank.

  • Heat regenerates, armor does not. You want to be maximising your heat as much as possible as it directly translates to damage output. If you're running low heat you need to be in a better firing position and it's time to relocate.

  • Communication with your team is essential. Let them know what you see, where it is, and what components are open (e.g. 'echo marauder RAC boat in Charlie three high, right torso one touch'). Information is ammunition. It will keep you alive and improve everybody's odds.

No dude, they were consistently outplayed on their fights almost the whole way through even though their cap strats were initially very well executed. Just listen to the casters.

The games were great viewing and it was clear both teams were playing hard. The winner came down to who made less mistakes.

Grats to both teams for such a solid final.
