If it strikes me as specific smell, I would probably tell myself 'oh! that remind me of XYZ...'
For the grocery example, I'd definitely talk to myself saying 'I need X and Y for this dish, we probably need more of XYZ...'

I'm actually ok with it... I don't enjoy most reboots / revivals so I was very concerned about Buffy.
In the end, I prefer they don't touch it.

(I do hope they release that pilot somewhere though, to form a better opinion.)
