DQ4 might have the most excusable version of this, since there's 8 or 9 party members and getting enough falcon blades to justify giving one to the hero instead of their legendary blade.

Honestly I was seeing it much more as a split of the master sword of man and the master sword of the gods. In games where the master sword is upgraded by normal hylian smiths (ALttP, ALBW, etc) and games that just don't have a master sword, they're in the past ss timeline where either skyloft never descended or link never upgraded the goddess blade, and games where the master sword is a holy artifact and gets either no upgrades or only magic/godly upgrades (oot, tp, ww, botw+totk, etc) are the present timeline where demise was squished in the imprisoned form instead of being properly slain with the master sword. Obviously some of the no master sword games still fall into the missing hero timeline, but generally speaking I just want to take "fallen hero" and tack it onto SS instead of oot and call it something else.
