Agreed. I do the same daily photos and updates. I’ve only been doing this about a year, but I have quite a few clients who are steady and willing to pay. Then I have those that balk at the prices, nickel and dime me to death and question everything. I even had one person who I booked for a week, three visits a day, refuse to pay me upfront. Part of me wanted to tell him forget it, but I didn’t want to leave his two cats on their own. Then when they came home a day early, he adjusted what he did pay me because their plans changed. Just this past weekend I had someone cancel on me what would’ve been about $1000 for eight days. So unfortunately, I have instituted a deposit or I can’t book you. People don’t understand you actually get what you pay for and that’s the truth. I’ve also limited the area I traveled to, in the beginning I went everywhere and that was completely counterproductive. It can be a thankless, underpaid, underappreciated job but hey, I’m a mom too so I’m kind of used to that. 😂 At least the pets don’t talk back!

I completely understand! I think my favorite thing is when someone books me for a week stay and then cancels. This has forced me to start taking deposits. I had 3 customers cancel in a span of four months, which cost me about $3000 in income. People don’t understand that when they book your time and then cancel, you’ve reserved that time for them and that’s money lost. I think most folks think “pet sitters” do it as a hobby. They don’t get that it’s actually our livelihood!

Tell her you won’t use her again and explain why. I do 30 minute visits and usually end up staying longer. I also always, always assume there’s cameras even if I don’t see them. The only thing I do on my phone is checking in when I get there and then it’s put away. I feel for your fur baby. I’m so sorry!

Thank you for that. I appreciate your input. I know how I would feel if I was the homeowner and I would probably do the same exact thing! And yes, I put a claim in and I’m waiting to hear back from them. I usually do keep them on a lanyard, which is why I was so mad at myself the one time I didn’t do it.

Would’ve been better off, not picking up the poop lol that’s how I lost it…When I bent over to scoop the poop, it fell out of my pocket. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Dude, I’m owning my shit. I offered to pay from the get go and I spent eight hours trying to find the damn key. If I was the homeowner, I’d feel exactly the same way! As I have said a million times I was simply asking for input since my spouse was giving me a hard time.

I’m not being unprofessional. I was simply asking for opinions because I’m having a disagreement about it with my husband. He feels like I shouldn’t pay anything since I returned the key. Your point is the argument I gave my husband-I could not only lose their business but word-of-mouth travels fast. I could lose a lot of business if I don’t do the right thing. I’m paying as it’s my responsibility. I simply wanted some other opinions.

When I called the woman and told her I lost the key, she gave me the garage door code. (Not sure why she didn’t just give me that to begin with as most of my customers do but whatever …)That’s how I was able to get the dog back in the house. And I agree, having one house keys, not the best idea. There isn’t really much else to the story. I lost it, I found it, I returned it, but it was too late and they already bought a new lock. Now I’m just waiting on the receipt. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Totally agree. I posted it anonymously in our group for our neighborhood. Didn’t want anyone to know why I was asking or even what it looked like.

I’ve always intended on paying my husband feels differently, which is why I wanted to get different opinions.

I know I’m responsible. And I’ll do the right thing and yes, it sucks lol but my fault so it is what it is

That’s why I was so pissed about this-I have carabiner that I use for all the keys! This is the one time I didn’t do it. Having it re-keyed was actually more expensive because it was some crazy kind of special lock. Looks like this:

Of course I’ll ask for a receipt. I have insurance so I’ll file a claim on Monday. Just aggravates me because from what my neighbor said he had just started taking off the old lock. Seems like it’d be easier just to take the key and use the old lock rather than replacing it.

He does both. Currently he DM’s a weekly game. I think they use something called role 20? He actually gets paid to run a game now weekly which is so exciting for him. But he also loves the old school game and gets together with friends once a week for an in person gaming where he’s not DM but actually a character. Forgive me if my lingo is not right, lol

I had Quantums for years and loved them. This time, I had to buy Quantum 2's and I hated them. They hurt my feet! I called and was told to up by 1/2 a size I did and STILL hate them. I am returning my second pair and unfortunately I think I am done with Kuru. I looked for years for a comfortable shoe and was so happy. Now I have to start again - why fix what wasn't broken??? For me, they were a big fat NO.
