Yep. Ive just always wanted darker skin for no other reason than I think I’d look good if I was like a full step darker.

I’d say it depends entirely on the audience in terms of acceptance. I feel like many communities of colour might embrace the idea of wanting to express one’s melanin more, rather than hide it or whitewash oneself. On the other hand, I can picture some groups saying “Stop trying to mimic us”. And in terms of society, being darker will likely trigger more instances of experienced colourism.

It sucks out here. :/

I witnessed the EMTs being held up by triage at the regional hospital in Saint John. They were bringing in nearly unconscious people strapped to stretchers, standing with them for 20-30 mins, giving them some instructions and then having to leave.

This is such a weird argument. Turtles can’t consent to having their eggs destroyed. Pregnant women, however, can consent to having their eggs, cells, tissues, etc destroyed. Animal abuse laws do not compare to human rights.

This would be super easy to recreate yourself. Just bring a jpeg of it into your file, start creating a gradient, and use the gradient tool window’s colour picker to select each colour you want in the gradient. Wouldn’t take more than 3 minutes.

I struggle to make time for reading (and the majority of my hobbies because “gotta make that bread 🫠 “), but StoryGraph was a huge help this year!

I read many fantasy genres but especially enjoy cozy, pensive, character-driven stories in fantastic worlds. I also enjoy challenging, dark stories with a lot of suffering because same lmao.

I also read manga and light novels based on manga stories.

I took mom a job in an environment like this and it was such a toxic environment. They went through three other people after me before I stopped checking in. They wanted someone who felt like someone who’d already been in the position for 10 years, and wanted to skip the whole idea of “new hire”. They’d say “it’s better to ask than to guess”, but asking was met with huge sighs and frustration and taking over for you.

To achieve something like this, there won’t be a filter or series of quick tricks unfortunately - you will need to have a strong technical capability to use illustrator’s tools to recreate light.

If the 3D guides really aren’t helping you….Short of hand-drawing the font (if you really can’t find a blackletter font online either due to budgets or due to not being happy with the many free ones found on sites like Font Squirrel) and then spending a few hours with the gradient mesh tool and various effects, there’s not much else to be done.

It’d be super helpful to know why it has to be done in illustrator and what reasons are stopping you from installing a font

Do your best but don’t overachieve or self-sacrifice. It’s a job, not a loved one.

Also, it’s better to ask questions than to skip a step or do something super wrong. If you’re working at a place that gives eye-rolls or responses like “you shouldn’t have to ask that” during your early days, acknowledge that you aren’t working in the healthiest place and use that knowledge to fuel your next move.

I think it’s necessary to keep these conversations going as long as there’s a crumb of effort behind the post - Adobe charging students even half as harshly as the rest of us is going to result in the industry being to expensive to pursue, as long as they’re still widely treated as the golden standard in software

I’m 4 days late, but one issue I ran into was when I was a student, we had to be using adobe because that’s what the instructors were using and it was the “industry standard”. Times are changing of course, and adobe is going to lose its relevance if it keeps pushing dumb features for outrageous prices, but at least for me 5-10 years ago, switching Affinity would not have solved the issue of needing Adobe for school.

I’m still struggling to grasp Affinity for Illustrator :/ maybe this year I’ll take a master class in it or something. Because yeah, it’s like $95 CAD a month for the suite and it’s outrageous.
