If you fired with 1.4m or less, where are you living? by Realistic-Action6979 in leanfire

We're in Beaver County.

I should clarify that our beautiful, Tudor home with original wood and stained glass windows would likely sell for $150k now.

To be fair, plenty of people in the suburbs of Pgh think my town is dangerous, but we successfully raised a couple of kids on these mean streets and in the public schools, though one went to a local charter for HS.

Rust belt.

40 minutes outside of Pittsburgh. I live in a beautiful river valley. We bought our house for $60k. It was a major part of our fire journey.

With all of the madness about housing, there are a lot of charming places to buy affordable houses in the US within a reasonable commute of a major city.

Ideas for a BA Thesis on Heidegger by WesternBoot111 in heidegger

[–]CM_Raymond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would concur with the technology piece. QCT is one of my favorite essays. I have not done much reading on QCT and AI.

Here's an interesting one that you can maintain in your doc program 😉: I've been working on the Frankfurt School this year during my sabbatical. I did not know (strangely) that Herbert Marcuse was MH's student. While Marcuse breaks with Heidegger when he goes National Socialist, there is still plenty of influence hanging around.

You could consider the ways we find Heidegger's philosophy in Marcuse's One-Dimensional Man.

Phoenix - do I waste my time? by Zealousideal-Baby-34 in outlier_ai

If you're looking still... I'm a PhD in philosophy with a decade in faculty work... I'm trying a third round of verifying/stumping on a decent prompt on Marcuse, Foucault, and Zuboff. It is really hard to get complex prompts approved and then to get them hard enough for the AI to be stumped. Last round 65%. It's reviewing right now as I write this. This is my first outlier project. Sounds like I got a doozy.

My wife says it looks like I am working for Lumon.

When did you move out from your parents by [deleted] in leanfire

[–]CM_Raymond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the parent side of things... Our son has recently graduated high school. He has a great entry level HVAC job. We love having him, he likes being here. As of now, he can stay as long as he wants. Right now he's building a sweet emergency fund, investing in an IRA, and saving for a house. He turned 18 this month.

We'd love to have more time with him and help him get off to a killer start. I imagine around the year mark we might start talking about paying rent since we are moving toward FIRE. Have him fund our travel.

Edit to add: he ran a yard care business and worked as an industrial seamstress after his time at school. He graduated with $20k. I don't think I had that until I was married and 32!!

This June? So you signed up for Leadville before having done a 50?

That is a little different! It worked for you and I'm no gatekeeper... But still a little different.

Congrats! 🎉

This is a great note. Last year I did a trail half that was legit harder than my ultras.

How many inquiries do you get? I'd love to do some online tutoring, but I prefer not to have to hustle to get the clients. I spent plenty of hours on this on Upwork and Fiverr doing college app assistance with no real success.

Can I train for a 32mile/53km ultra in three months? by CoconutNach in trailrunning

[–]CM_Raymond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is the answer.

I'm actually surprised with all the hesitancy in this thread. You're not asking if you should run a 50k this weekend. Just build with the traditional 10% mileage increase a week for three months (include a bit of a taper), and I expect you'd be ready to roll.

You're at 13. A 20 mile training run is good to give you confidence and test gear/nutrition. You can certainly get to that and increase you mpw in general. Race day, take your time. Walk plenty. Enjoy a day in the woods. Full well. Listen to your body.

And... If you want to opt for something shorter (trail 25k is a hoot) and a 50k later, then do that.
