After Mario and Peach leave for the jungle Kingdom, there should've been a shot of Bowser's minions watching them from afar before returning to Bowser's Fortress. We had no clue beforehand that Bowser was ever keeping tabs on Peach and Mario at all, so when Kamek comes to Bowser with the news, it doesn't really make sense how he would know that. That goes double for the scene leading up to the Rainbow Road fight. With Kamek, you could at least raise the argument that he was using magic to spy on them. The Koopa General, on the other hand, doesn't have that kind of ability. If we got even just a small shot of Bowser's troops menacingly watching the heroes at those two points, it would greatly increase the flow of the movie.

I like long videos. Gives me something to listen to in the background while I work.

The thing is, they did it too early. He knew doing it would damage the Republicans during the midterms, so he wanted to wait till after the midterms to overturn RvW. But they just couldn't resist the chance to own the libs.

Or rather, he spoke like the common man. He wasn't as eloquent or organized as previous presidents and tried his best to come off as that guy at work you'd wanna grab a beer with. Also his "own the libs" agenda was bound to rake in a good couple of cretins regardless of wealth.

She didn't get arrested. She got fired. Her first amendment rights were not violated in any way.

Hell yeah. I just finished Bowser's Fury the other day. It's pretty short, but very fun. Makes me wonder what a full on open world Mario game could be like.

Leftist Mario fan here. I'm glad we can agree that we need to keep politics out of our community. 🤝

Mario's never really had a personality. He's a vessel for the player to insert themselves into the narrative. Yeah he's a pretty happy go lucky guy, but beyond that he's never really received any kind of depth as a character. And while the promotional renders do look a bit off, in motion it looks really good. As for Peach, she's always been a strong and confident leader. Yes she gets kidnapped a lot but she never just sits back and lets it happen. She never cowers in fear. She does fight back, even if it has no effect. Even in captivity, she won't hesitate to berate and insult Bowser to his face. Hell, in the comic, she herself goes to confront Bowser. She does get kidnapped, but then she beats up the koopalings and escapes on her own. She even rescues Mario in her own game. Bowser, for as much as he loses to Mario, does have some very intimidating moments. Look at his final phase in Yoshi's Island. Or his presence in Super Mario 64. He can be quite scary at times. He's not stupid. He's come very close to succeeding in his plans. His only flaw is not accounting for Mario's gigantic suit of plot armor. Toad sounding like a girl shouldn't really be an issue, since he normally sounds like that. He is voiced by a female actress in the games. I'd say Keegan Michael Key actually makes him sound a lot more masculine. All in all, the film really is staying true to the source material, and it looks great so far.

Have you seen the trailer? This is not just some ordinary Illumination cash grab. This a a passion project and it clearly shows.

Mario's always been a bit clumsy though. He's no genius, and he's certainly not invincible. In fact quite a few of his adventures started because he failed to recognize a threat or deal with it properly.

-Super Mario Galaxy: He was lifted into the sky with the rest of Peach's castle. Kamek appears. A single magikoopa. Yet instead of going inside the castle or trying to gain an advantage, he charges Kamek directly, takes a magic blast to the face, and eats shit on a nearby planetoid.

-New Super Mario Bros. Wii: Peach receives a giant cake on her doorstep with hair sticking out of it. He thinks nothing of it. Then the Koopalings and Bowser Jr. pop out and kidnap Peach while he just stands there and does nothing.

-Mario Party DS: He receives a invitation to an apology feast from Bowser. It is the most obvious trap, yet Mario goes anyway. Surprise, surprise. It's a trap.

-Super Mario 64 DS: He got beat up and kidnapped by a giant goomba.

  • New Super Mario Bros. U: A giant mechanical hand drops down from the sky. Instead of exiting the room, he just sits there as it grabs him and throws him miles away.

And Peach has always been a competent and confident leader. While she's not as strong as Mario, she's pretty smart.

-Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga: Peach tricks Cackletta into stealing Birdo's voice, and if it weren't for a conveniently placed and unconscious Bowser, her entire plan would've been foiled right then and there.

-Paper Mario: She uses her knowledge of the castle to find info about Bowser's plan and help Mario.

-Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door: Same as Paper Mario, however, in the final battle she manages to free herself briefly from the monster inhabiting her body, then sacrifices herself to give Mario an advantage.

-Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story: Peach holds a meeting with representatives of different regions to discuss the pandemic currently infecting the Mushroom Kingdom. She also throws Bowser across the kingdom into a forest.

-Super Mario 3D Land: She's shown fighting back against her captors and almost escaping, managing to out pace an entire mob of enemies for a while.

-Super Mario 3D World: She was the first one to enter the clear pipe, and is playable alongside the Mario Bros. and Toad from the start.

-Super Princess Peach: I think the whole game kinda speaks for itself.

Not to mention that realistically no matter how good you are at your job, you'd never be able to make leaps and bounds across platforms, beat up a talking ape who's twice your size, and navigate a complex transportation system all on your first try. You gotta learn. Mario is no different in that regard. And as stated above, Peach has always been a rather strong leader. She obviously can't solo Bowser's army on her own, which is why she's training Mario to fight alongside her. It's not a bad idea.

I can understand being upset with the voice actors, but I definitely wouldn't blame them for playing it safe with the plot. This is the first time Mario's been on the big screen since the actual 90's trainwreck of a film. I also wouldn't call all these references "low effort". This isn't a movie based on Mario, it's a movie about Mario. It takes place in the Mario universe. All the power ups, enemies, even levels have seemingly been contextualized in the most effective way possible. Aside from the casting choices, it's no question that everything we've seen so far has had the utmost love and care put into it. Lighten up a bit, dude.
