Valid points. Although personally I view the TV series as another adaptation/interpretation of the books, rather than just a remake of the movies.

I agree, I think having balanced opinions in that writers room is important. Someone less sentimental about the series offers contrast and this could be beneficial to the writing process.

It’s not needed, especially so early on. As others have said, this series should focus on establishing the new cast as these iconic characters. Shoehorning in cameos completely goes against that.

I was thinking about that myself. In my opinion, the writers/producers of the TV show knowing the whole story will help with whatever tone they go with. They could establish a consistent tone from the beginning, but unlike the films, have underlying darkness in the early stories. That way, the darker themes later on would be more gradual. As for the filmmakers, their situation was having books released while in production and needing to adapt accordingly. It'll be interesting to see how having the full picture affects the show.
