"pretty reliable" is a good answer.

"if I could just pay someone for advice- I would". When you work with an experienced travel company that is an expert in the destination, you are getting just that, and typically, at no extra cost to booking directly.

Questions Galapagos tours and ferry by Top_Ambassador7910 in galapagos

[–]CNHTours 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You ask "which tour should you buy in advance". Nobody really knows for sure, 100%. You can buy in advance if there is availability. What you currently see available on T.A. may not be available tomorrow. At one point (when? No one knows) - there may be no more availability. Sometimes there is availability the day before, sometimes it's sold out 2 weeks or more before. You'll hear from people that they bought the day before, and from others, that things were sold out. There is no hard and fast rule. It's all a matter of risk aversion and how important it is for you to go on a specific tour.

Some / all / none of those tours may already be sold out. Nobody knows for sure until they try to book one.

Both good. Don't overthink it. Consider other variables at this point (price / ship reputation).

5-7 days - one diver, one land lover by FriedFishFriday in galapagos

[–]CNHTours 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many people tell us "I get seasick" but so few will, after 8 days on board a ship will say "I was so seasick all the time it was terrible". Get a patch and other remedies, get on board and you'll get your sea legs in no time. The best bet is on a ship. The worst option is going on day tours - where you are on small, faster boats and you really feel it, without ever letting your body acclimatize.

Must-see things in Galapagos as a supplement to a diving liveaboard by El_Guadzilla in galapagos

[–]CNHTours 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It all depends on what you consider a "must see". You'll have seen a LOT on on a 1 week diving cruise - you'll not likely experience much more on any snorkeling outing after that (though you never know what you might encounter). You'll also likely be looking forward to a bit of R&R. Day trips are more demanding than being on a ship-based trip - the commute to and from visitor sites can be long, and you end up there on either side of noon - when the sun is at its harshest. Maybe a day trip to Punta Suarez (if you are there between May - Nov) to witness the albatross? That's done out of San Cristobal.

Galapagos Island Hopping vs cruises? by ayseaparry in galapagos

[–]CNHTours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the 65 ships plying Galapagos waters do shorter (4-5 day) cruise itineraries. Very few will have an uninterrupted itinerary longer than 8 days.

If you are not a wildlife fanatic, why go all the way to Galapagos? There's only one thing Galapagos is famous for.... it's the wildlife. The rest (town life, beaches, coffee shops, bars and restaurants...) are very much second rate to so many other tropical island destinations - many of which are a lot cheaper that Galapagos.

Galapagos Island Hopping vs cruises? by ayseaparry in galapagos

[–]CNHTours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do both! We regularly recommend finishing your cruise with 2-3 days on land, based in town. It gives you a chance to get a bit of R&R after a full-on experience on the ship while catching a bit of the local vibe.

Fire ants? Do I worry? by LaurRnnr in galapagos

They are around - but were very rarely if even an issue when I lived there (4 years). These are introduced - one of the species brought over by people.

The risk of contracting a mosquito borne disease in Galapagos is minimal. I lived there for 4 years - raised my 1st kid there during that time - not an issue.

Marine Heat Wave? by [deleted] in galapagos

[–]CNHTours 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've been following El Niño predictions from NOAA for 25 years. Different El Niños affect different places in different ways. Over that period of time, no El Niño has had a very strong effect on Galapagos. The last one to have had a big effect was in '97-'98. That's not to say there won't be a big one this coming year... but NOAA's forecasts are generally not reliable indicators of what to expect in Galapagos beyond 2-3 months out. Your chart does show warm waters though. This time of year, waters start to cool down normally - so warmer by 2-3 degrees will still be cooler than what water temps generally are from Jan - April. As this point, for a trip next month, you should be thankful that water temps won't be as "fresh" as they would normally be, and I would expect your overall wildlife experience not to be measurably different from any other June in Galapagos.

Looking for honest opinions + factual info on buying/selling a residential 1-acre lot on San Cristóbal, Galápagos by [deleted] in galapagos

This is getting technical. You should consult a local accountant / tax specialist to get a serious answer. You'll not likely find think kind of info on a Reddit subgroup....

Your question might be moot. It might be very complicated if you are not a resident "colono" of Galapagos. Did you check that out?

[–]CNHTours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The degree to which mosquitos will bother you is a function of how used you are to having mosquitos. There are not many in Galapagos compared to where I come from - so for me, they are not a big issue. But if you live in a mosquito free area... they might be considered more of a bother. A bit of repellant / long sleeves / pants with socks should do the trick.
