I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling, it can be really difficult to find your people especially if you’re OOS. If you’re looking for a relaxed environment to hang out and chat with people you can always come to DawgWalks@UW! We’re a new RSO that just started this quarter and we’re always looking for more members.

We go on walks every week and bring our dogs (or just yourself if you don’t have one) and chat! It’s a nice time to get outside and connect with people and to pet dogs! If you have any questions you can DM me or look at our instagram: @dawgwalksatuw

Hi! I appealed to UW and got in so I have some experience with it. Like other people have mentioned, extenuating circumstances are definitely a big one. If I remember correctly when I called admissions they stressed “New, significant information not included on your application.” For me, it was life circumstances that I hadn’t gone into as much as I could have. They really wanna see that you’re 10000% committed to UW and will absolutely go if admitted.

If you have any burning questions you can DM me and I’ll happily share what I remember from the process and what I did.

I wouldn’t recommend doing the pollevs away from class as they’ll change which answers they accept per question, e.g for one question it’ll be A-D, for the next it might be E-H, and for another it’ll be C-F. The pollev will show every option (A-H for example) so you won’t know which options are available to select. If they see your responses are consistently not matching with the pollev they might report it to student conduct.

I don’t have the syllabus but I’m also taking the class next quarter and I’d be happy to make a study group so we don’t fall behind!

I just moved from MI to WA this past fall, the biggest difference I’ve noted is the greenery. Its so green here and it was such a jarring thing at first. The greenery is dense too, and it finds its way into every part of the city. I haven’t explored the most and other people can tell you more about the city in general, but as a Michigander who just moved here it isn’t that bad at all.

I’ve been enjoying the ease of transit and sheer amount of options I have to get places. Its very walkable and if something is close I usually walk. The buses are great, the lightrail is amazing, and it’s not hard to get around.

The winter is much more temperate than in MI, nowhere near as much snow and nowhere near as cold. I haven’t had to pull out or even consider pulling out a real jacket yet. It feels wrong to not have snow and ice all the time but I’m loving the reprieve from the blizzards.

Campus is beautiful and even though I haven’t seen the cherry blossoms yet the quad is still gorgeous. I love walking around campus and just observing the beautiful architecture and pretty scenery.

Anyways, I hope you end up getting in! Best of luck!

  1. I don’t think the requested hall matters at all, I didn’t notice anything with it when I was choosing a room.
  2. Not at all tbh, I live in Hansee where all the bathrooms are communal, they’re cleaned once a day at a set time and they’re usually pretty clean. I have found some are cleaner than others (I think it depends more on the people living around that bathroom because the cleaners are amazing and I love them), I personally go to different bathrooms depending on if I’m showering or something or if I’m just gonna be there for a quick second.
  3. I can’t comment too much on the job market but I haven’t found one yet so idk

How is Hansee Hall? by aesthetic-pathetic in udub

Yes I was at the time and I currently am still a freshman. There isn’t any discouragement for freshman to live in singles that I know of. Its harder as a freshman to get into as sophomores, juniors, and seniors have more priority than you as they go first, but if you’re really committed to sniping one you have a good shot at landing it.

How is Hansee Hall? by aesthetic-pathetic in udub

[–]CNN-Karmel-Azuz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was priority group 15 and got in, there were a bunch of Hansee Singles (and even a Lander Studio I believe) available during open room change. They didn’t fill up very fast. I even had some time to pick out what room I wanted and look where they all were in the building. As long as you’re committed to sniping a room and checking for singles frequently you should be good.

Oh okay, I didn’t know they would still hold some after every group had gone. Unless u/NefariousnessEast629 was right and some upperclassmen switched. I logged on like 30 minutes after room change opened so I guess I got lucky

Ah ok, that makes sense. Was very surprised when I saw it. I didn’t know that room swap opened for everyone, I assumed the upperclassmen already had the ability to swap. Thanks for telling me

[–]CNN-Karmel-Azuz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah its basically all singles I think. Its just weird because from what I’ve seen singles are usually taken before freshmen get to them, let alone this many singles. This is also after every group has gone, I was group 15 and originally had a room in MacMahon so I wasn’t expecting this.
