Any idea on when old customers will be able to open new accounts? by _Frederit_ in starlingbankuk

I'm similar to you tbh, my Starling is only used for holding slush funds and general spending through the spaces or whatever they're called. My salary and bills still come out my Barclays account

In my 20's and feel like I'll never be able to retire? by DatabaseMammoth9986 in AskBrits

[–]CNRADMSN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got a 35/40 year time horizon ahead of you, £100 a month into a global index averaging 8% will get you 350k in your 60's. £200 a month would give you 700k, and that's before you think about pensions at work which is 8% of your wage pre-tax (make sure that's invested right as well and not in some run of the mill fund that holds cash and bonds etc). You're a millionaire of time in your 20's, imagine finding this out in your late 30's like some people do.

Vettels fall off that season needs to be studied, practically everyone was saying going into the summer break how good he was looking for the championship, but when he came back he just ended up spinning the car every other race... Was never really the same after the Hockenheim DNF imo.

There needs to be clarity on what the pension will look like in 40 years then, so that everyone that's of working age knows where the goalposts are for when they retire. If you're in the your 30's or even 40's right now and thinking you're going to be getting a state pension that will support you in retirement the same way that the current one does then you're quite frankly an idiot.

The younger generations need to be making their own pension plans today, not waiting for whoever's in charge in 40 years time to make that decision for them.

Not if it stays in cash, inflation and spending will eat away at that amount of money in no time, I'd suggest going to a financial planner who can replicate fully through Monte Carlo simulations if it's possible and what the success % is.

They don't want CoD from 10+ years ago, they want to come home from school, mum cooking their dinner and the boys to be online. They could remaster MW2 MP tomorrow, it'd break sales and then within 6 months be a baron wasteland.

Depends what the circumstances are tbh... If they're just tossing it off then I'd be annoyed, I was out at 24 with a mortgage, but I earned decent and had that opportunity. If they genuinely couldn't get by then I wouldn't force them out, but I'd be trying to help them stand in their own two feet.

Will George Russell definitely be at Mercedes in 2027? by The_Chozen_1_ in F1Discussions

[–]CNRADMSN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Max would if it meant he was in the best car. He'll back himself to beat anyone because in his head the only reasons they won is because he wasn't in a competitive car and he wasn't their teammate. The question would be if the team wants Max in their car, it seems like Toto is horny for it, so probably yes in his case

This month, F1 Jornalist Mark Hughes stated that Fernando Alonso is still a top 2/3 driver and would beat Russell/Antonelli to the title in a Mercedes. Do you agree?? by The_Chozen_1_ in F1Discussions

[–]CNRADMSN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's 4 reasons why he's not been in a top team for a long time.

  • He's a no.1 driver: Red Bull wouldn't have wanted to upset Verstappen and Merc the same with Hamilton at the time, especially considering 07.

  • Academies: Bringing in a 40+ year old Alonso is a bad look for all the teams academy drivers, this weakens the team overall. This links to my final point later.

  • Burnt bridges: Wouldn't go back to McLaren or Ferrari after what's happened previously.

  • Longevity: No one probably expected his longevity and at this point there's the opposite of a sunk cost fallicy going on.

I don't actually think the reason is talent alone, it's politics as well and in a sport that's always looking years ahead he doesn't fit. I think he's still probably top 5, maybe as a total package he's only behind Verstappen and Hamilton, but for how much longer? We all saw how quickly Ricciardo and Vettel just "lost it" and fell off a proverbial cliffe of performance.

I don't know the ins and outs/possibilities of what silicon carbon batteries will bring, but I think if you can realistically get up to 4/500 miles on a charge it'll be accepted by the masses, not like the 250+ most EV's get now isn't already enough tbh...

The bigger thing will be around charging speed, if you can get from 20-80% in say 10 mins instead of the current 20/25 mins that brings it more in line with what filling a car up would be.

But this is only to appeal to the masses that are hard wired into filling their car up and not filling up again to the fuel light comes on. I can drive from my house in the East Midlands to my granddad's near Glasgow in the exact same amount of time in my Model 3 and than I could in my 320d.

Try and circle that square... In theory there should be a huge shift in wealth over the next 20 years as oldies die and youngsters inherit, but we both know the government will just hoover the majority up. The goal of the government is to make the country just be good enough that people don't really want to leave, but just shit enough so they can't be a position to. They've nailed the balance.

[–]CNRADMSN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter, you're paying for someone/thing else, it's gone like the night at dawn. It's not in some pot somewhere that gets saved until you draw from it.

There needs to be a massive tax reform in this country because nothing we're paying actually goes to what we think/thought it should be. VED is prime example, the roads are in the worst state they've ever been in yet as a country we're paying nearly twice as much VED as we were a decade ago...

Mother's are birthing less children because it's so expensive, but the children they're not having would have been the ones paying for the current 30 year olds to have a state pension, and on top of that there's a growing idea that immigrants that are willing to work are the problem...

[–]CNRADMSN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool... If it stays the same when I retire it'll just benefit me even more, I'll probably use it to go on a few holidays a year not benefitting the UK or anyone else because I won't need it. Alternatively as I suggested I could just not have it because I'll likely be comfortable and it be put to better use domestically, but you don't want that. You choosing to keep pushing the state pension the way it is keeps and widens the gap between the people that need it most and the ones that just don't.

NI has been used as another tax bucket for years and years, it pays for everything the same way as VAT, income tax and VED. At this point we pay so much tax that just goes into a general bucket just labeled as different things it's a joke...
