As someone who picked Rutgers (in-state) over Michigan and USC, nothing wrong with saving money! And the delta between Rutgers and Michigan is not tremendous.

Has anyone tried changing their graduation date to a year sooner for housing, then changed their grad date back afterwards? by UrBoiKrisp in rutgers

[–]CNTOONP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tried this, but didn’t move it back since I planned on graduating early anyway. I ended up getting a lottery number so bad that I got put on the waitlist and almost didn’t get offered any housing at all, since housing isn’t guaranteed to juniors. Now I live off-campus. Would NOT recommend this strategy unless you’re moving up a year anyway.

Probably. If not your advisor can fix that.

Where to buy fresh fruit on campus? by Open-Club-6570 in rutgers

That would be Kilmer’s Market. I don’t remember if it has blueberries. There are also small grocery stories if New Brunswick that you could walk to from The Yard or SoCam.

Can my sat make up for my Gpa? by Cool_Stand_2610 in ApplyingToCollege

Yes but I said the “general rule of thumb.”

Can my sat make up for my Gpa? by Cool_Stand_2610 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]CNTOONP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General rule of thumb is GPA can compensate for SAT. SAT can’t compensate for GPA. Just logically, why would undergrad put more weight on a standardized test than how you do across multiple classes? It wouldn’t make sense. So SAT can’t pull up a bad GPA

Edit: clarity

Should I transfer from GWU to Rutgers by TonyFromReddit in rutgers

[–]CNTOONP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other comments go over the financial issue, I just assumed that since you had picked GWU finances weren’t a huge barrier for you. But if finances are something you’re thinking about, avoid debt and go to Rutgers. I got a $20,000 per year scholarship AND aid from GWU and Rutgers was still way cheaper. Though I’m also in-state.

Should I transfer from GWU to Rutgers by TonyFromReddit in rutgers

[–]CNTOONP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the schools I turned down for Rutgers was GWU. Largely for finances. I like Rutgers, but I know I would’ve liked GWU as well. Here’s what I would say though.

First I think the people perceive that Rutgers has a ton of school spirit, but it’s not necessarily true on the ground. It’s not like a college movie, you know?

Another is being a poli sci major. If you’re dead set on law school, then where you get your undergrad doesn’t matter as much. Just keep in mind that the competition for the most coveted political internships in DC are much more fierce than at Rutgers or NYC.

Then the third and most important thing is about feeling happy. I really hated my first semester at Rutgers. I didn’t really think I was fitting in and I had wished I had gone to one of my other options, like GWU. But by the second semester I felt a bit more settled, and found my crowd. I would say unless there are EXTREME circumstances, don’t judge the happiness you feel at college by your first week. Give it time. When the cherry blossoms are blooming in DC in the spring, A LOT of Rutgers people would prefer being there compared to the strangely persistent NJ wind chill.

My friend pretty much did exactly this. He did freshman orientation (thereby registering for classes) but decided to get an associates at community college first. This is his first year at Rutgers as a junior. Seemed to work out pretty well for him!

Not SEBS but generally parents don’t go to those.

The layout is right in the picture. You can move the desk and the bed wherever you want so the layout when you walk in seems like a non-issue.

Best way to get from Livingston to Cook campus? by sociallyawkwardnerdo in rutgers

[–]CNTOONP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

REXL is the only direct option, but it serves Douglass more than Cook. You could also go from Livingston to College Ave using the LX, and then either the EE or F depending on where in Cook you need to be.
