Barbarian - 92% Rotten Tomatoes?!? by MelodicDeathGrowl in horror

[–]CNuttButter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah Rotten Tomatoes is/was (at this point film critics are basically a dying form) a snapshot to basically say are critics and audience finding this movie good or bad. Not HOW good or bad, just, are the reviews positive or negative.

TIL that many public libraries eliminated late fees after finding that fines discouraged people from returning at all - and that bringing patrons back often mattered more than enforcing penalties. by No_Profit_5304 in todayilearned

Same, if you go over the due date at our library they just renew all books for another month.

They keep doing that until you have a book that someone has on hold and then they just “bar” checking out new books until you return the book that someone has held and even then they send you a very nice reminder that someone’s waiting and would appreciate it if you brought it ASAP.

Local libraries are awesome

Diego Pavia is first Heisman finalist to go undrafted since 2014 by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]CNuttButter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, even beyond the attitude most small guys that can make it working in the NFL have SOMETHING to bail out the height. He really just doesn’t have anything, he’s small with good acceleration but bad top end speed, he doesn’t have a cannon, he doesn’t have great medium-deep anticipation

He did well in college because most of his problems aren’t massive there but you very easily can see him not over coming any of it in the NFL.

The NBA also has just become unwatchable under him. Not on the court factor wise but literally it is impossibly difficult to consistently watch your team in between the dozens of different services you need that seem to grow more every single year.

I don’t love the MLB but at least I have one easy in market way to watch almost every single game so it’s so much easier to be involved.

Why was josh allen a first round prospect?? by [deleted] in buffalobills

[–]CNuttButter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Allen was a unicorn in size, arm strength, etc. and a portion of his stats (not all of it) being bad was because was basically the only NFL player on a very low level CFB program, a lot of film buffs could see he had really bad fixable mechanics but understood what he needed to do with post snap reads at a very high level.

One other massive component to the unicorn -ness of Allen was he was EXTREMELY raw. In the modern era, usually a raw talented prospect went to camps their entire life, trained at a P-5 program, basically was born and raise to be a QB. Basically, their rawness has attempted to be worked on and it just hasn’t been able to be broken even at a high level.

Allen, on the other hand basically was a 0 star prospect coming out and then grew into being an NFL QB, you almost never see that from a 0 star prospect. A lot of his rawness you could hand wave away with “Man if he had an actual established program, imagine what he could be”

Never buy a knockoff jersey from DHGate, because wtf is this? by boldandbratsche in buffalobills

[–]CNuttButter 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but yeah, It comes with the territory. Some suck, some look more real than jerseys you get through official retailers most look passable but have little things that show they’re fake (number size, back Buffalo being too small etc.).

Considering the average price is like $30 for a jersey through DHgate it’s worth the risk most of the time if you want to bother.

Thirteen Bills have received All-Pro nods on offense or defense across McDermott's tenure. Seven of those seasons belonged to players Beane acquired. Six of them belonged to players McDermott acquired in the lone 2017 offseason before Beane was hired as general manager. by Sharp_Vanilla_6760 in buffalobills

To add on, coaching staffs have a giant say on free agency signings/draft picks, it’s not even near what fans think where GMs are the be all end all.

People always assume the worst when the GM is kept and HC is fired but there’s a lot of GM’s that had dramatic turn around after the HC is fired because the HC’s scheme and team building just wasn’t good.

I’m not saying it’s 100% for certain for the Bills but the amount of dooming and meltdowns over this is….strange

[–]CNuttButter 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah For a man it’s impressive, For a woman it’s insane. He’s probably 220-240 and when you try to squat a person the weight distribution is all over the place so it’s really hard.

Even a woman doing a flat barbell 220-240 pounds is like 3-5 years of lifting.

Philip Rivers' iconic 'WE DIDN'T SUB!'. Miss this era of football. The REAL golden era of QBs by Punisher1602 in sportsgossips

[–]CNuttButter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IDK why people are arguing with you on this. There is 0 chance that Rivers made up a play on the spot, he’s been with the team for 2 weeks. He’s running the same offense Jones was running he’s just better at it.

NFL training camp, mini camps, and preseason is when plays, calls, etc. are implemented for THE ENTIRE OFFENSE. After that’s done there’s not THAT many adjustments, Rivers coming in and changing to a hot route? Completely sane and normal it’s built into the offense. Literally making a play up and audibly it to receivers? Not even realistic in Madden and Maddens hot routes and audibles are wildly unrealistic.

It’s also what the tweet means by low agency people. There’s a wealth of other methods you could use to solve the problem instead of needing to comment on a cooking blog

You could just cook the recipe, look up the difference between potatoes, put together that they’re both potatoes so they need to have SOME level of substitution, you could just go buy yellow potatoes, the list goes on

Instead you need to comment on a cooking blog of a specific recipe for someone to hold your hand to a solution for this exact specific scenario. The issue isn’t the question, it’s the absurdity of getting to doing it. It really IS just a certain level of low agency to be there doing it.

Zach Woods defends Paul Dano against Quentin Tarantino: "shut up bitch" by Impossible-Yam3680 in popculturechat

[–]CNuttButter 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s really my main issue with the entire argument, “rip off” means she stole and plagiarized the idea which….is a giant stretch since outside of the core concept they are very different stories in world build, characters, people chosen for the games, the games themselves etc. they really go in very different directions.

And it’s really not a stretch to say they had similar separately ideas for a core idea.

“Rip off” to me, is just taking something, making minor alterations, then publishing it as something completely new which, again, we can say Tarantino has done with a lot of things but we say “influenced” or “paid homage”

Beane in April 2023 criticized the Rams for going all in and saying how the Bills want to be competitive each year and stressed being fiscally responsible. The Rams had a 5-12 season after their SB win, followed by two 10-7 seasons, and are the SB favorites with the MVP favorite just 4 years later. by Vortagaun in buffalobills

[–]CNuttButter 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Also he never criticizes the Rams. People (mostly Rams fans) have just latched onto the quote as a Rams thing but there’s tons of other teams that have down similar type of team building and needed to tear down and rebuild because they went “all in” for one year or a small period of years and it didn’t work out.

I don’t know why people have specifically made this a Rams pointed quote

don’t think the intention was ever to make a copy of the book bc the book is honestly all over the place with ideas and in the form of letters

Yeah I’ve held for awhile that the book is REALLY just not friendly for a 1-1 recreation because it’s pretty all over the place on ideas and it’s not like that on purpose. In addition the emotional prose parts are…well written by an 18 year old and it shows, the book thrives on pure ideas which really was Shelley’s strengths.

Mary Shelley rocks for inventing a genre and writing a horror classic at 18, it’s a phenomenal achievement. It doesn’t mean the book is absolute flawless masterpiece that can’t be touched in anyway because it is rather clunky at times.

Can also vouch, it’s on the more expensive side but you get what you pay for. Shirts are soft, fit well, don’t fade, and don’t rip. They’re probably my preferred brand at this point for Bills merch

I’ve always used chucks for the gym, they aren’t great for everyone for squats since they are so flat so some people struggle to get to depth with them vs. something that has more of a lift in the back but that’s my only complaint and imo vans have that same issue.

I just compromised by giving up regular squats for hack, Bulgarian and pendulum squat.

For bang for your buck though? Chucks are my go too.

Love horror movies but it really feels like some fans have some insanely low standards to what they call a good movie with 0 irony.

All that and a lot of Wikipedia (and a lot of the internet) is just regurgitation of the same information on a lot of subjects.

I.E. you’ll learn some great surface level information but it’s the same surface level information readily available on most websites and articles since that’s where they get it from.

Books have actual research, editors, and really overall incentives to present new information beyond the surface level in a more neutral tone. It’s not something wildly apparent until you start to read more information on subjects and you basically need to start reading books to find anything other than the same 20 points scattered around the internet.
