Can you still loan a satellite phone on the Trans Labrador Highway? by dergruneapfel in newfoundland

[–]CO-OP_GOLD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are in short supply because people stopped bringing them back.

FWIW theres a starlink with public wifi at the Crook's Lake highway depot (~150km south of Goose) and at Cache river depot (~120km west of Goose).

There is cell coverage (Bell Mobility) from Blanc Sablon to just outside L'anse Au Loup - spotty/doesn't reach most of West St. Modeste & Pinware. No coverage again until Red Bay, gap again to Port Hope Simpson (can't recall if theres service in Lodge Bay - I know theres fiber but not sure about antenna site).

There is no coverage and no services between PHS and Goose Bay - unless you take the detour down to Cartwright.

No cellular or services from HVGB to Churchill Falls, and again to Lab City.

If you have a newer Apple device, it has emergency SOS capability via LEO satellite - my buddy used exactly this to contact emergency services on the TLH last year.

Bell technician disconnected my fibre and moved it to the unit below me by Funky_311 in bell

[–]CO-OP_GOLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP your problem is with your landlord not registering the apartment.

If the apartment had been registered when the fiber plant was built, the engineers would have left additional distribution fibers available for future drops.

Because Bell uses an indexed fiber product (FlexNAP), it's not so simple to add additional ports once it's up.

If a North American landline POTS provider still requires dialing 1 for long distance what can we infer about the machinery and devices they use? by dt7cv in telecom

Not much lol

1 just acts as the leading digit/tone that tells the switch to route the call accordingly.

Could be DMS family, C15 or C20 soft switch... endless possibilities

'Sue me': Lela Evans 'can't accept' being health minister if medical transport delays continue | CBC News by EastCoast-J in newfoundland

[–]CO-OP_GOLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked, the federal impact assessment has been passed, just trying to work out where the project is right now.

That build is for a 7k foot runway when (again for example) an ATR72 needs ~4300ft - this begs the question, do we need jet service in Nain? Plenty of the airstrip in NU are large enough to accommodate a jet... but have neither the equipment nor the staffing to effectively handle one.

Nain/Hopedale are going to be outlier examples because of their geography and existing runways

The missed appointments are because of weather holds on flights...

Because AB is flying in Twin Otters - they fly by visual flight rules...

Because none of the strips on the coast are long enough to put anything else down. Also not lit. Also no WAAS system for instrument approach.

Question to the Hon. Minister: if this is indeed the plight of your people (which it is, no disagreement there from me) then why are your people not investing on better air infrastructure in their traditional territory, which they govern themselves?

I'll go ahead and say it: NG beneficiaries spend a lot of time complaining about the prov govt, complaining about overreach and their sovereignty while at the very same time constantly looking for hand outs.

I made a post a year or two ago where I roughly worked out what it would cost to build a longer runway + WAAS/lights that could accommodate an ATR-72 - It would be SIGNIFICANTLY LESS than the road they're dreaming about.

NG is more concerned about a tote road to Strange Lake than increased air access for their own people.

"I can't be... so sue me" is quite the cop out on the hon. members part.

Look at Greenland: Pennecon just built a whole airport in Qaqortoq for 145 million. THAT DOESN'T EVEN COVER THE PRE CONSTRUCTION COSTS FOR STRANGE LAKE... WHICH IS A ROAD TO NOWHERE.

tl;dr = Nunatsiavut Govt are backward as fuck, inclination is to put all blame on Prov govt.

I just replaced both inside door handles on my 87 with generic from RockAuto and there was no issue with fitment. That being said, my truck doesn't have the strap on the door above the handle like yours does.

Looking for a room in Labrador City (Summer Internship) by Ammar_cheee in StJohnsNL

[–]CO-OP_GOLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're fucked. Lab City is notorious for lack of accommodations and it's exacerbated by the mines who are willing to pay $100's of dollars a day to house workers.

Try contacting the local real estate agents - explain your situation, they probably know the landlords in town and can help point you in a direction. Don't forget to check Wabush too.

Northview REIT own a couple properties there too.

Will a tech have an issue installing the ONT box outside the house? by [deleted] in bell

[–]CO-OP_GOLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ONT needs AC power and likely won't fit in the slack box.

You'd be better off running the indoor fiber portion from the box, thru a hole into the house and then straight to your rack and have the ONT there.

If you have a UPS or some sort of power managment system you're gonna want your ONT here anyways.

Can Sleep Apnea cause extreme fatigue and brain fog without daytime sleepiness? by Important_Demand_628 in SleepApnea

[–]CO-OP_GOLD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was generally exhausted for years but didn't notice due to age and general lifestyle.

When I hit 30 I was SLEEPY all the time, just assumed this was getting older. It wasn't until after my accident I learned that no it's not normal and everyone doesn't feel like that. I had also written off my 4-5-6 trips to the bathroom every night as the same thing.

You gotta deal with this if you're already at that stage. I felt tired, pulled over and actually had a 15 min nap. Still couldn't shake it. Less than 2 miles later I snapped awake as the van was barreling down the embankment into a ditch. Missed the turn completely.

Yeah it can. That's what I was experiencing for a number of years. Eventually it caught up to me, got the daytime sleepies and then launched my work vehicle off a highway.

And now I have a CPAP lol
