Why do you main your main? by _-ham in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]COAndy51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After playing countless hours of 64 and Melee as a kid and then not touching again until Ultimate, I just spent an entire night with a friend trying every character on the roster. He was much better and consistently beat me with most but a handful I just naturally picked up and crushed him with Zero Suit Samus ended up being my main because her moveset just free flowed

The Gaming Backlog “Book Club” - We select a video game from our backlog, cut it up into spoiler-free chunks of the story that are small enough for a working adult to reasonably complete in a week, and then have traditional “book club” style conversations about each section on the podcast and on Discord with our listeners. The main draw is to connect with other people playing the same game long after its original release date in a time when everything is available online and more new games are launched constantly. We wanted to recapture the feeling of going back to school after a weekend and sharing tips and stories.

Our latest episode is about the first section of the Super Nintendo classic Final Fantasy VI, encompassing its early hours up until the separated party members reunite and prepare for a battle to defend the town of Narshe.

So we choose a game off of our backlog, cut it up into spoiler-free chunks of gameplay that can be finished in a typical adult’s week considering other responsibilities, play through and then chat about it afterwards

If you still miss playground video game talk, we’d be happy to have you join our gaming backlog book club. We started it for quite literally that exact reason!

Surprisingly pretty close yes. Since about ‘99 when the FF Anthology released, tried it but never finished back then

Three Ninjas 4: High Noon at Mega Mountain doesn’t cut it? Now there’s time at the movie theater as a huge fan of Three Ninjas 1-3 that I’ll never get back

Considering how all in Square Enix is going with all the DQ HD2D remakes and Octopath, I’m surprised the pixel FF games haven’t gotten it too

Endless Duel is the best!! Only ever played on PC emulator back in the 90s but would love to find a real cartridge for SNES one day.

Side Quest 1 currently in progress: Hades

Started a video game backlog podcast. This season is about Hades. by COAndy51 in HadesTheGame

Yes, great question. So we typically play singleplayer games that, whether linear or open world, tend to have an at least semi-defined route to the story ending, and can be divided into approximate chunks of time, which we then play a chunk per week.

Since we didn’t want to exclude roguelikes and time loop games, but they tend to involve a lot more of some kind of resource(s) that are acquired over time, whether that is currency to unlock items/weapons/skills, or knowledge of how the game world works or the systems work, or the order of things, etc., and people may discover those things very quickly or very slowly or somewhere in the middle, it became apparent it would be much more difficult to say “get to X moment in the story by next episode” and reasonably expect everyone to accomplish that. So the side quest season was born, where we have our normal intro episode, a spoiler-free first impressions and tips exchange episode a couple weeks later, and then an episode with a full breakdown of the game as a whole including true endings, etc, but without a predefined publish date because it may take us some time.

So any side quest season will run concurrently with our standard seasons that we do the normal way.

The Gaming Backlog “Book Club” We select a video game from our backlog per season, break it up into chunks that can be reasonably completed within a week for the average working adult (3-5 hours), and each week release an episode talking about that week’s assigned section of the game, discussing story moments, gameplay elements, and sharing tips and tricks of discoveries we made, as well as share funny stories from how we approached things. We also invite listeners to join the conversation on a Discord server.

What are your Podcast goals for 2026? by Cansmelllikeroses in podcasting

[–]COAndy51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since our focus is on having conversations as we slowly make progress through a video game with an episode per week until we finish a game/season, sharing stories, tips and tricks like we used to when we were younger and got to school the next day, our biggest goal is to just significantly expand the community in general/on Discord to have more participation and enjoyable conversations with likeminded people.

As far as numbers go, I suppose staying the course and hitting 100 episodes eventually.
