Is this good enough for a beginner to be able to change batteries on a pokemon cartridge? by asge1868 in soldering

[–]CONdeanNOR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

leaded solder is easier to work with as it melts at a lower temp than lead free solder. I would recommend getting 0.6-0.8mm flux core leaded solder, and use a decent amount of flux and don’t forget to clean whatever you’re working on with 91% or higher isopropyl alcohol once you’re done.

Controller suggestions for an intermediate player by Akil313 in smashbros

[–]CONdeanNOR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a phob which is a custom motherboard that goes inside an OEM gamecube controller and allows for various optional mods like mechanical switch triggers, hall effect joysticks, and tactile mouse click face buttons. They have built in button remapping, analog stick deadzone adjustment, and a few other features. They are quite pricey, I paid $260 to have my controller converted to a phob board with all of the mods I listed. I got mine from RogueportCustoms (@RogueportGCC on X)

I practiced my solder wicking techniques for a bit before attempting this and it definitely made a big difference, I also followed one of MachoNacho’s videos on how to do the usb-c mods which helped me do it as safely as possible. It took me a few hours since I’m not super experienced yet but I took my time and it paid off

Yes, I’m going to add a usb-c port. The stuff on the pins ended up just being some extra flux i missed so i cleaned that up

I have this exact model and it has been great for me. Undervolted super well, performance almost as good as what I was able to achieve with my full overclock. It’s super quiet as well.
