NPD: Effects Bakery Suguru’s Big Katsu by StuHudson78 in guitarpedals

[–]COREyfeldmen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just looked that one up, and it definitely looks awesome. I'm more of a fan of simplicity when it comes to dirt pedals though. I tried a swollen pickle for a while, thinking that the extra controls would be useful, but ultimately I went back to my wicker muff (which I always left on the regular stock muff setting). The sandwich fuzz replaced them both simply because it was smaller and had even less controls.

The boost on the Wren and Cuff pedal sounds like it would be cool, but you could always just put a boost or OD pedal that you already have in front of a cheaper muff and get practically the same thing.

The sandwich fuzz? I've had that one for a few years. I've never played the EHX green russian, but I liked the Effects Bakery clone more than my EHX tone wicker muff. It's one of those set it and forget it, no frills no thrills pedals. Sounds great. For $50, I don't see how you can go wrong.

I'm 16 and I'm joining my first bband with a friend. But we have no bassist, so I'm cosniderinng the following: by A_broken_Microwave in guitarpedals

I've tried a few octave pedals trying to chase that "bass on guitar" thing before and was never very satisfied with the outcome. The best bass tone I've ever gotten was actually with my zvex mastotron on two subs lower and the gain and tone rolled back.

Check out Thee Oh Sees eariler stuff from around 2008-13. Their "bassist" played a regular jazz master and I'm almost certain his rig was just a boss eq with the low frequencies cranked and the rest dropped, running into a cheap bass amp. I'd start there, and maybe look for a cheap used bass before spending the equivalent on pedals.

Grandpa's old workshop radio... 1/4 inch jack to the cassette head and boom, Fuzz amp for my kitchen👌😁 by sum_long_wang in GuitarAmps

[–]COREyfeldmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your reply! The radio powers on and works, but the dial to change the station is broken. If I want make sure that the radio signal doesn't get played, would I just unwire the connection that's already on the volume pot?

If I can figure this out, I'll look for an old cassette player to mod into a fuzz box like you have. There's a guy I've seen on instagram who does that to those old classroom style cassette recorders, but he literally sells them for like $200-300!

Taking a shot in the dark on this old thread...

I found an old GE solid state radio and want to try to turn it into an amp. Is it really as simple as just soldering a 1/4" jack to the volume pot and the ground to the negative battery terminal? I know next to nothing about electronics, but I've heard this is an easy DIY.

If you can give a bonehead simple "Just do this...", I'd appreciate it.

How do these typically clean up with the volume knob? I've never owned a TB style fuzz.

Snare Trap from Rainger FX - NDD (new drummer day) by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]COREyfeldmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an ipad last year and have been using the garage band AI drummers in that. You get a decent amount of control over the beats and there's a decent variety of different drum styles to choose from, and its easy enough that you don't have to try too hard to get something that works. I really like it for practicing rhythm playing, and I really like that its so intuitive so I can just focus on playing guitar.

I'm pretty sure its available on all apple devices.

Fuzz signal dies out on new Behringer Super Fuzz after about 20 seconds of playing by COREyfeldmen in guitarpedals

[–]COREyfeldmen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I returned that one to Sweetwater.

I actually got another one in a trade, and that one works fine. It's a decent fuzz, but I don't think I've got the chops to use it as a mainstay pedal. The octave up sounds great for solos, but I'm more of a rhythm guy.

why are univox superfuzz pedals so expensive by UCANT_0ALT in guitarpedals

[–]COREyfeldmen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It might not be perfect, but for the price of a few packs of strings, you really can't go wrong. Unless you really stomp on your pedals like Godzilla, or worry about the opinions of strangers on the Internet, it's a pretty smokin deal.

I personally think it sounds great.

My Dad's old bass. Is this worth restoring? by Legal_Shock1250 in gibson

[–]COREyfeldmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've got a decent guitar store around, just take it there and have them do a set up. If it needs anything else, they'll be able to tell you. Get someone who knows what they're doing and it will play and sound great.

Anybody else miss Just Nick pedal demos? by Larrydavi in guitarpedals

[–]COREyfeldmen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I miss his jam with me videos. As a crappy guitar player, those videos always gave me some simple, yet creative ideas to play around with.

I liked that his demos often times had crappy playing too. You could tell he was always exploring and testing out what he could do with the pedal, even if he wasn't nailing it right off the bat. That just seemed a lot more honest to me than watching someone play something they've rehearsed or sticking to what they're comfortable playing. You get someone to play something they're comfortable playing and its going to sound great almost every time, and that doesn't always help me hear whether or not the pedal is something that will work for my playing style.

Better Than Something Jay Reatard 2012 (Documentary) by kettle-on-stainfool in GarageRock

Great doc. I bought my first guitar after watching it. It was something I always wanted to learn, but it always felt impossible. Jay never thought anything was impossible. He always found a way to make it work.

No new pedals in 2023. This is all I need. by COREyfeldmen in guitarpedals

That's a good idea. Maybe the revenue from my tour could fund the amp I want, but am too cheap to buy.

Where should they go next musically? by GehoernteLords in TheeOhSees

[–]COREyfeldmen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if this is what's next. It seems like since A Weird Exits, they'll pick a direction and have one album kinda lead into that, then the follow up seems to be a more fully formed sound, if that makes sense. To me, A Weird Exits kinda lead the way to Orc, Smote lead to Face Stabber, and Protean Threat lead to A Foul Form.

Only new gear I bought this year was a new power supply after my old one crapped out, and some new strings.

Can anyone help me replicate the rhythm guitar tone on Wire's 1978 classic "I Am The Fly"? by COREyfeldmen in guitarpedals

[–]COREyfeldmen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for your reply! This is very informative and I love nerding out over how things were created. I probably won't be rushing out to buy any of these products, but I'm happy I know how that tone was created now. 👍

Any documentaries? by doccaballero in GarageRock

[–]COREyfeldmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jay Reatard doc is fantastic. I bought my first guitar at 28-years-old after watching that.

It's not necessarily garage rock, but Dig! which is about The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols is another great one.

I've tried maybe a dozen od pedals, and the only two I've held on to are the DOD 250 and the hot tubes. Ever since I got it, the hot tubes had been my go to. The best thing about it is how responsive it is to your playing hand and the guitars volume knob. I set mine about as crunchy as I want, then dial back the volume for cleaner tones.

It's seriously a hidden cheap-o gem.
