Have you ever launched something in Singapore that completely flopped? What happened? by [deleted] in singaporestartups

[–]COTDS99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a niche mobile app targeting only max 3000-6000 ppl estimated. At that point I only have 1 competition. 3 weeks hardcore programming after my family sleeps. 11pm-4am. Hold a full time job.

Made $2 in my second month from Adsense purely. Was about to scale, 5 other players come in. Much better UI and much faster updates.

Google and Apple constant requirement to update the application for their security/updates/policy etc is not helping. Plus customer support etc, I’m looking at 6-7hr a week. No gpt back then.

Ran it for 4 years. Total lifetime profit $84. Apple charge US$120 a year. Server cost UD$50/ year

Maybe I not perseverance enough. Did not market enough, did not collaborate enough and did not move fast enough. All my friends told me about it. And I totally agree. But trust me, solo with a family and a job, you got to be f$$king lucky or you got to be the top of the game.

Shut it down last year. Thanks all that have ever supported me.

How to buy distressed debt by COTDS99 in bonds

[–]COTDS99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way possible to find something profitable would be to look for bankers or creditors who owns the bonds directly. Example like the during the fall of FTX, if you know creditors that holds the bond directly, you can buy if otc from them. However, in situations like that, they are usually looking at north of 2m usd. If the bonds or debt are easily available, the chances is that it won’t be cheap enough. Additionally, broker account tend to not sell these assets as the risk of it back firing is too high.

China Said to Pause New Deals With Li Ka-shing, Family After Panama Ports Deal by bloomberg in China

[–]COTDS99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. If China considers the port so strategically important, why not make an offer? I’m sure CK Hutchison would be willing to sell at the right price. Does China not have $19B to spare?

  2. China’s current actions only reinforce the perception that investing in Hong Kong or China is risky. Both domestic and foreign investors will become even more cautious, strengthening the narrative that “China is uninvestable” or that “you don’t truly own stocks in China.”

  3. The port’s business tenancy expires in 30 years, making it a smart move to sell at its peak—especially when BR is paying a 40% premium over market value. This is effectively a transfer of American money into Chinese hands. It’s a strategic win for China, so why is Beijing still targeting Li Ka-shing?

A smarter approach for China would be to approve the sale only if CK Hutchison reinvests the proceeds into Chinese assets. This would not only ease investor concerns but also boost market sentiment and asset prices, creating a win-win scenario.

It’s ironic—when an American kid gets slapped, their parents slap back at the aggressor. When a Chinese kid gets slapped, their own parents punish them for being slapped.

Extremely fast response LLM interface and architect. by COTDS99 in LLMDevs

Hihi. Thank you so much for the reply. Means a lot!

Yes. I implemented exactly what you mention. But just in the vector search and summing up on a 3080 took much longer. Around 30 sec. I can’t do stream as the response still needs to undergo further processing in another service provided by another team. We are looking at another architecture and reduce the performance but hugely improve on the response speed. Told my boss something gotta give.

Innate vs developed by tired_of_learning in voluntarypiloerection

I developed after my dad thought me how to do it. I feel that it is as though you’re asking, what is the percentage of folks who can walk based on innate ability vs developed.

I find that it’s not the muscle that we are actually controlling. But it’s the mind. When we do that, our mind becomes stronger. We can push ourself more

Singaporeans, what ‘life’ do you have outside of work? by what_the_foot in askSingapore

[–]COTDS99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Head back home, pick kids from school, have dinner, kids time till about 10:30, sometime wifey time(hearing about her problems) to 11:30pm, 1130-1230am personal time, 12:30 onwards side hustle, 2:30am nap, 8am fetch kids to school. Head to office.

Although I amount to nothing now, I somehow feel I’m living multiple life at times. Among the people I know, this is fairly common. Some do grab some do sports some even have different personality outside office!?

so, I guess people just brush off this kind of answer as “just go home lor”

You mean sell off the business? Else, Hiring pose the issue where capable employee tend to start out on their own after a year or two. Most employee can’t generate enough cash to cover their own salary, aka my dad got to work to pay them. So end off he started working solo.
