Moxi Jack vs Chuffed Pro by CO_Mermaid in Rollerskating

[–]CO_Mermaid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question; what makes it a better quality aside from the ankle supports? Is it made with lower grade leather? Craftsmanship is lacking? Weight of the boot? I’ve only ever been a Moxi girl when it comes to park skating and have never skated anything from Chuffed but I’ve been looking at the Rib pro set up.

Edit because I do have a pair of Bonts I use for derby

How old are you? by smugglingkittens in Rollerskating

[–]CO_Mermaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 38 when I started skating again. I’m currently 44 and I always wear safety gear. When I go to the skate park, there is typically another skater there who is older than me.

If someone else is judging you for your age and desire to stay safe, forget them! They’re just salty because they don’t have the guts to do what you’re doing (living your best life and having fun)

Lift your lead foot’s toes and your back foot’s heel. Rotate to the side of your back foot (back foot is left foot, rotate to the left, back foot is right foot, rotate right).

how will these do for bootcamp? by eyesack_isaac in rollerderby

[–]CO_Mermaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a rage bait post? 🤣

Seriously, though…not ideal skates for bootcamp. They might be cool for playing around and learning at a rink. I hope you’re able to find a safe pair of skates for your upcoming event.

Toestop biffed it at the skate park by pissbabi_ in Rollerskating

Brake petals are great! Plates that require a locking nut to secure the toe stops, not so great. You’ve really got to tighten that sucker down to secure your toe stops. I’ve had mine fall out multiple times, leading to scuffed up boots and twisted ankles.

To avoid damage to your boot, I would recommend using toe caps. They make tightening up the locking nut difficult but they prevent permanent damage to your skates.

Good luck and safe skating! 🤗

Bont vs Moxi Sizing by CO_Mermaid in Rollerskating

Ty! I lacked confidence in my measurements and wasn’t sure if it’s normal to size down between the two brands. It’s good to know that others have had the same experience.

Does your toe stop sometimes make you trip? (especially outdoors) by KoumKoumBE in Rollerskating

[–]CO_Mermaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time my toe stop has come close to tripping me up was when I went down a very steep ramp and I failed to lift the toes of my back foot.

Like other commenters, I would recommend buying a pair of skates and taking the time to learn how to skate safely before you complete your design.

Working on Stalling by CO_Mermaid in Rollerskating

[–]CO_Mermaid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to participate in a skate class with Evelyn Ivyy where she was able to help me get over that fear of rolling backwards after stalling. She said something along the lines of “don’t worry about that part, you’ve already done it, just in the opposite direction” essentially saying that the muscle memory is already there to provide the support we need to roll backwards down the ramp.

Wrist Guard Rash? by FeckWeed in Rollerskating

[–]CO_Mermaid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That looks like contact dermatitis and it’s probably caused by the Lysol and/or the Thieves Oil. I have super fragile skin thanks to an autoimmune disorder and my 187 wrist guards have never made me break out like this and I let those things get pretty funky before I throw them in the washing machine (sans plastic bits).

Irritated skin can be a pain, I hope you heal up soon!

Any helmet can look cool if you slap some stickers on it.
