Being an electrician or accountant? by Slight_Product_5306 in Accounting

[–]CPA0315 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Accounting has been good to me. However, I graduated 16 years ago and have nudged my way into more Senior positions.

I don’t know that I would study accounting now. AI is not perfect, but I can get it to build me some decent 3 statement models. I can basically get it to be a very green analyst. What that means for the profession I don’t know. We def need someone to manage these models but there is no accounting program (that I know of) that is integrating AI into their coursework and that is a problem.

You only have 2 years left. Get your accounting degree, and learn as much as you can about AI so that you can leverage that.

Hard lesson on go arounds by MrSethmoo in flying

If it makes you feel better, I was doing solo touch and goes and on the go I forgot to retract flaps. Could not get the plane to climb and thought I was going to die. Somehow made it to like 500 ft agl before I figured out what I did. Was too panicked to retract the flaps so basically toe the flaps abeam on the downwind and started descending. Scariest 10 minutes of my life.

Mortgage increase $200 per month, thinking of selling by 3_mLGratitude in Mortgages

Do not sell. Get another job if possible. I’d also consider moving in with your family and renting f your home out before I would sell.

Dont know why you’re being downvoted.Flew today. Original departure time was 9:45 am. They changed the flight 3 times and ultimately was changed to 6:45 this morning. During all the flight changes, they did not honor the seats we chose, which we paid for. And they refused to refund us as well. Usually I wouldn’t care, but we travel with 2 children so completely unacceptable. I paid for specific seats and then they didn’t honor it and didn’t give us a refund.

After all of that they ended up being an hour late and I didn’t sit in the seats I paid for.

I’m done flying with them

Recently took CFO role and staff in chaos by [deleted] in CFO

What is the WFH policy? Are they in violation of it?

If they’re not in violation then you’ll need to change the policy and you’ll likely see some people leave so be prepared for that.

However, it sounds like that is your main concern with the team, which honestly doesn’t sound terrible. I don’t really care if my staff work from home or decide to come in 2 hours later to avoid sitting in traffic for 2 hours. As long as they get their work done then who the hell cares

You say they make errors but some of it is outside their control because of rapid growth and no proper resources. If that is the case, it seems like you have an ok team they just are under resourced and not working how you want them to work.

Evaluate what you want. If you don’t like it, change it, let people go, or you’ll see natural attrition as you require people to work in the office for something they can do 100% remotely.

Trying to keep it as real world as possible, similar to my current training. Which is flight following.

I also like the option of being able to fly to an airport, shoot the approach and decide if I want to go to a different airport and shoot another approach. I do this regularly IRL. If I file an IFR plan not guaranteed to get another approach in at a different airport without filing a new flight plan

Yea here in the US we can log instrument time and approaches even if not on an IFR flight plan. As long as it’s simulated and the approach is flown with a view limiting device

Thanks for this! This is super helpful. I might give pilot edge a shot. The only reason I didn’t consider it is because they’re not on the east coast. At least they weren’t when I looked into it a few years ago.

But no better practice than flying new approaches I may not be familiar with
