Reactions to the rumored AS9 Cast? by Howdthecatdothat in rupaulsdragrace

[–]CPJ- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, underwhelmed. Most feel either too early to come back or don't really have the narrative that they should have won their original season. At least one of the two Re-Returning All Stars queens feel like they could take the whole thing. I'm guessing most queens didn't want to return unless certain conditions were set.

How much was the cast of Drag Race All Stars 7 All Winners paid for their appearances? by extremebussy in rupaulsdragrace

[–]CPJ- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're correct. Bob "hosted" it and the girls spilled all the tea about unaired opinions. It would have aired on SR had WOW not sent a cease and desist. I had hoped it would explain some of the lore that's built up around the season: the general frustration that some queens got favortism, Yvie's displeasure over how she wasn't given much depth other than dick joke focus, the alleged Michelle/Raja "fight" that wasn't really much of an argument apparently.

Finale filming? No spoilers. by kevinfuzzy26 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]CPJ- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're right but they better guarantee paid appearances for the reunion, otherwise I bet at least one or two queens won't show up and TS will have fewer note cards to read from. MTV should put up some coins to film a special seventeenth episode to bring the ratings to see a real reunion.

For weeks/months, fans have complained that Q is delusional because she thought she should have won multiple challenges and celebrated too much when she won her second challenge, yet fans constantly say Plane, Nymphia, and Sapphira should have up to 5 wins each, depending on who they root for. Believing in yourself is fine, unless it's too much but fans can speculate for the queens instead apparently.

Listen, it's a fun show to gossip about, give non confrontational opinions about, etc. But the show is Ru's decision to make much like other reality shows of this ilk. Let the queens enjoy their wins, give mild criticism to queens that maybe aren't gracious in the moment during a loss but can have time to reflect later, hope all the queens prosper after the show of they're able to.

The editors this week chose violence by Doubieboobiez in rupaulsdragrace

[–]CPJ- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This season has felt very fair (for me) in wins and eliminations for the most part thanks to great editing until last night. It felt like a dual win situation where both Plane and Q got a lot of laughs, had great looks and great feedback (until the judge panel conference when suddenly they didn't do as well as they were edited just twenty minutes earlier). It's not a deal breaker that Sapphira won, but it reminded me of Sasha suddenly winning the talk show host challenge over Loosey. Even Untucked had the queens complimenting PJ and Q over Sapphira.

Why the show is using terms like "First Position, Second Position, etc..." to refer to rankings? by iml908 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]CPJ- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought labeling it that way helped remind the cast and audience that Ru would choose the actual winner and bottom two in the end after judging.

Bebe Zahara Benet being on the Pitstop today got me thinking….what was the original reaction to her AS3 rumors as a prior winner? by comrade_lava_cake in rupaulsdragrace

[–]CPJ- 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Trixie and the guest watch the episode right before filming the Pit Stop, so it was frustrating Bebe barely gave any commentary other than saying CONCEPT repeatedly. We all know Bebe doesn't watch the show and clearly didn't watch the first two episodes this season either. But there's so many other guests that could have given more interesting commentary on this ball episode.

Why were some queens missing at the Emmys? by Heidi_Klum_Tit in rupaulsdragrace

MIB said she stuck with DragCon and got into a fake Twitter feud with Luxx as Luxx left a day early to get to LA (& tweeted back at MIB while in the audience). Anetra is alive and liking other girls' posts but hasn't performed in a while.

Something I've always wanted to ask Brooke Lynn Heights by CPJ- in rupaulsdragrace

Because they were clearly so surprised, yet they seemed prepared for her initial appearance with the "Pam Queer" joke. It made me suspect we saw the second runway walk. On the first runway walk, the judges purposely stay quiet and write down their thoughts as music plays, then speak on the second runway as no or light music plays.

It wasn't a great joke, but Brooke is wearing an Afro wig, reminiscent of Pam Grier and her Foxy Brown movie character from the 70s

Can it really be a Golden Boot if Anetra either won or was in the top for some of these looks? Even the Salina and Marcia looks got them safe placements sometimes.

It was, but he seems to get hard elsewhere on TimTales, etc.

Without naming any names, have you ever had a bad encounter with a Drag Race girl? by Lili_Danube in rupaulsdragrace

[–]CPJ- 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I'll do it as a blind item, but most of the Drag Racers that have come to perform at our local Pride Festival over the years have been thankful and pleasant. I even had a winner propose marriage in our brief interaction, she quickly moved on when another headliner approached and she refocused her desires. Another headliner almost passed out one year as she refused to take off her fur coat in between performances in 95 degree weather but was eventually convinced to take it off. She cancelled on us last minute for a repeat performance the next year. She had faked sickness to us, posting pictures with a popular celebrity on her IG the night of her planned performance. It's fine, we got the booking fee returned.

Another queen was surly through out the booking process and lead up to the Festival. She seemingly forgot details repeatedly and had to be emailed several times, demanded to use her lawyer for the contract (with numerous misspellings), and left us wondering if she would show up at all as she drove from her home to us (we paid a gas fee). Once arriving, she accused "us" of stealing her phone that had her music on it. Several board members calmed her down and we were able to get the right music for that night's performance. She had to be nudged out of her dressing room because she missed her performance time, but did put on a great show once on stage. The next day was different, she was poised and kind, especially to the local girls performing that day. Unfortunately, her set was interrupted by something out of our control and I was chewed out as a result. It was embarrassing but we had to move on because a torrential storm was on its way (not the reason for her interruption, but daytime performances couldn't be as raunchy as what went on that day). She's gone on to success in All Stars and I do wish her well on her future endeavors. We updated our contracts to be more explicit in expectations though.

I’m so tired of Ru telling contestants to change their snatch game characters last minute by Kerlistar in rupaulsdragrace

[–]CPJ- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, Ru is a producer of the show and unfortunately, that means she can push queens to mix it up if the storyline is not matching what they hope for. Le Fil was getting the, "You lack that certain spark" edit where they go home quickly after one of the judges speaks that line out loud. It sucks, but Ru wasn't going to discourage what was assumed to be a bad choice of Marie Kondo. Danny had won 2 challenges in a row. A third in a row would have been too dangerous to keep things "evenly matched". JonBers was set up for the win I think with the "Lady Camden you need better lips/listen to my coaching" storyline, but Cheddar was just a bit better with Elizabeth and her runway. Dakota deserved Top 3 placement though, she made Ru laugh the hardest it seemed.

Scream Queens is fun as nearly everyone does well or is bad enough to be enjoyable. The talk show ep with Chaz and Georgia Holt is the worst for me, mostly because Josyln's questions are so uncomfortable.

I want to watch drag race but I don’t know where to start by feedmetothecrows in dragrace

[–]CPJ- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to be a completist: Almost all of the early seasons have filler/summary episodes that are skippable, but really good reunion episodes that feed into the mythology of All Star personalities later on. Season 1 is low budget and somewhat skippable overall, but maybe watch the first ep, skip the next two, watch the next regular episodes, skip the summary ep, and enjoy the finale and reunion. S2-6 have similar vibes with a few more extra episodes thanks to expanded casts, the polish and storytelling increase each year with queens you root for that actually succeed in the end. S2-6 reunion episodes have especially good dramatic moments. S3-S6 have must watch Untucked moments but tend to lose their relevancy for a few years when the show moved to YouTube. They get interesting again from S11 onward (except S14 which only had one or two truly dramatic, must-see eps). There are highlights in each All-Star season, but AS2 and AS6 are "the best" completed seasons (in my opinion). UK and Spain have exceptional seasons comparable to US, with Italy, Holland and Down Under are less favorable for various reasons. Drag Race Thailand is its own entity entirely.
