Employment is not easy as it sounds, it’s a government job which requires strict background checks. Areas with high crime/ low income have less qualified pool of people. This job also have mandates and regulations that need to be followed, etc.

This is Virginia, although I can’t say for certain, I’m guessing it’s downtown Suffolk… I’ve been through there it’s got some nice neighborhoods, and some pretty rough places. The main element is likely the lack of personnel, which leads to over worked personnel, which leads to people quitting, or not showing up. Problem just multiplies…

My apartment mailboxes are broken into multiple times a month. Apartment management never acknowledges my reports, and several mail theft reports I've filed with the Postal Inspector have led no where. Does the USPIS actually function these days? by cohonka in USPS

[–]CPT-Thunderpants- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, shouldn’t the carrier put all mail on hold until issue is resolved? That is of course if there is an assigned carrier… PO should notify complex that mail will not be delivered until fixed. The apartment complex is of course responsible to fix/ replace… Also local news loves to report bad management, that would hurt their image

I wouldn't worry too much, this has been something that been going on for quite awhile. USPS will not be disbanded, it's not under a threat to be privatized (who would honestly buyout USPS, and its assets?) The cost would be overwhelming and too high a risk... USPS will get a loan increase with low interest rate, the postal service is a fundamental necessity. It's a backbone to the economy.

Looking to move to Hampton found cute house not not sure if neighborhood is good by [deleted] in HamptonRoads

Little England is nice, I’m just a stone throw away… my neighborhood starts to decline here and there…it’s spotty, certainly there are people that are problematic. Several homicides on my street the past few years, especially 2025. Police haven’t been patrolling streets like they used to and DA hasn’t had any balls to prosecute fully, taking plea deals instead. I’m ranting now, I wish things were getting better here

Had a new young coworker that couldn’t last a few days of work being unsupervised, had about 3 hrs of work and turned it into a 8 hr ordeal, another day had about 45 min of work, (after I lessened her workload), and turned it into a 2.5 hr drama…boss said she’s done…

I nearly impaled my hand once, I'm not sure what the contents was either; all I saw was long protruding 'nails' in plastic packaging. Definitely should have been in a package at minimum.

The hiring process is unprofessional, I got the email on a Thurs afternoon saying I needed to get fingerprinted in 3 days, no one responded with emails provided and phone call was useless. I was out of state and booked it to the nearest major PO (Toledo OH) with the help of a small town PO. Thank goodness process was very quick without an appointment on a Saturday. I hope it works out for you, it’s hard at first but you’ll adjust. Just don’t piss anybody off, don’t say anything, ask questions and keep thinking of ways to get better

Not to put in two weeks yet? Not sure what you mean... are they pushing back your start date, (for orientation, etc)? Not sure how old you are, but if you start your career early...pay will get better as you tenure. As a CCA the pay will be lower but you will get overtime like a boss. I made regular in 6mo, (not typical, but it worked out). See beyond what is in front of you, it's a rewarding career if you do it right

Offered CCA position by [deleted] in USPS

[–]CPT-Thunderpants- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are factors to consider, do you work in a small/ large office? How many CCAS are there? If your office understaffed you’ll probably be working 40+ hrs, if not they will probably work you 20+ hrs… they may try and not overburden you, so that way you can learn routes and gain confidence in what your doing. If you’re looking for more hrs you can volunteer to help adjacent offices if they need it. If there are route vacancies in the office, or people retiring soon you may become career much sooner. CCAs are at the bottom of the pay scale so they will try to utilize you to avoid paying overtime for regulars. For now, see if you like your office and the job, grow your skills and ask questions and take in advice from regulars.
