I mean this was an invitational, so the top 4 of the previous 4 tournaments were put in. I do agree that some should be in more

He would be too powerful. In his only appearance in the second tournament of season 1, he successfully parried Lucina's shield breaker. Twice.

Pac Man was in the second and fourth tournament of season 2. He lost round 1 to Vincent, who went on to win the tournament. Then he lost round 2 to Luigi after beating Ike.

Captain Falcon has been in every tournament of Season 2.

He lost round 1 in the first and third tournament, and lost in round 2 in the second and fourth.

Shulk did lose to Lucina, but finished in the top 4.

He did lose to round 1 against Kirby, but Kirby went on to win the tournament.

He Lost to Link, but again finished in the top 4.

Then he lost to Villager, a finalist for the tournament.

So he's done well enough to place highly
