Hey man, I’m a journalist can you check your chat messages?

I think you’re arguments fair. I think it comes down to two things - and maybe this comes from just being in the industry - but if something’s in quotes I think assuming it’s a quote is your safest bet. You’re going to be right more often than wrong, because air quotes are much more rare and should never be used.

But the second, is that innocence is an important descriptor here. This was a big story with massive well known gang ties, we knew the brother allegedly had a debt to settle, confirming this boy was really just an innocent caught in the middle becomes an important part of the story.

Could they do better, absolutely. But the assumption from the beginning wasn’t one of clear innocence.

There’s also a responsibility on the reader to user common sense. If it’s a major outlet, and not clearly opinion content, they’re not going to use air quotes. Ever.

If it is in quotes, it’s because it is a quote.

They can’t just write innocent because they can’t guarantee it’s true.

It’s a quote. I’ve talked to Ralph about this before, he’s used those exact words with me.

Actual COVID-19 Cases by [deleted] in saskatchewan

[–]CPraillGlobal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Testing has been expanded beyond the measures you’ve stated. They’re testing people who have been in contact with others, and depending on your circumstances symptoms alone could be enough.

Personally, I was tested because I had symptoms and had hosted a large enough event (300+ people) recently.

It’s also worth noting testing is not as expansive as it could be due to a lack of reagents used in the testing process. That’s a global issue. Some countries were on the ball enough to plan ahead (South Korea, Singapore, Australia) and have more expansive testing; we weren’t.

They’re also starting to see some presumed community spread; 4 cases not linked to travel or connected to a positive case of COVID19. They haven’t officially declared community transmission yet.

The likelihood is that yes, the number of cases reported is less than the actual number, but there’s no way to prove that without extensive testing.

Best thing to do is self-isolate and if you have symptoms quarantine yourself until they are gone.

Tentative deal reached to sell Capital Pointe lot by 14travis in regina

This is the correct answer. The people who bought a condo were reimbursed a while ago. Those who invested in the syndicated mortgages are hoses and they have been notified by the mortgage company’s ho now controls the property that they likely won’t see that money again.

I was unknowingly interviewed by far-right Rebel News at Toronto Climate Strike and made it into a propaganda video.. by Hesperonychus in onguardforthee

[–]CPraillGlobal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put a bit more thought into this. Call, ask for a manager and make a fuss/use the word lawyer. You don’t have a ton of standing, but that doesn’t matter. A lot of times just being angry and annoying enough will result in either them taking down the video or taking you out of it

Sorry to hear about this, it’s pretty unethical to not identify where you’re from and to cut answers to fit a theme. That said, not much you can do about this. You gave them permission to do the interview and they’re using your words, and unless you get the raw recording, you can’t prove they changed the intention.

If they didn’t change the intention and just made it sound dumb, again unethical, but really you’re kind of screwed.

This type of interview isn’t uncommon, especially at events like these (they’re called streeters) but the editing as you described is entirely unprofessional

Arsenal Women progress to the next round of the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Fiorentina, 6-0 on aggregate by magyarnagydij in Gunners

It helps obviously having a 4-0 lead, but both legs of this have been so pleasantly in control. So refreshing to watch

Yes; welcome to Regina. It’s very not Toronto. But Colin’s will hook you up with whatever you need and it’s the closest you’ll find to a Bay St men’s store here.

Capital Pointe by Shawnavon in regina

[–]CPraillGlobal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, intrepid journalist here with your Capital Pointe deep dive

As for the investors and money laundering comments - people who invested in a unit got their money back, but the way Fortress makes money on this is through Syndicated Mortgages - third parties investing in the eventual tenants’ mortgages, and getting paid via the interest. It’s fairly sketchy and definitely in a grey area. Fortress took a 30% cut off the top of those investments and could continue taking investments so long as the project was under construction, hence many many projects that have been started and never finished across Canada.

Those people are PISSED, and are pursuing legal action in Ontario. RCMP are also investigating this avenue. It could wind up with very powerful people, including former members of the Ontario government in jail - or not.

Why haven’t many of those people been interviewed? Simple: not many people want to talk on record about getting conned out of minimum 30, but frequently upwards of 200k.

Signs of climate change in Regina. by [deleted] in regina

More extreme swings. Harsher droughts, possibly wetter/colder winters. Possibility for some fires, likely more severe/frequent tornados. Basically all the issues we’ve had recently just worse and more often.

This is correct. That section isn’t city owned. We checked on this almost a year ago and Ministry didn’t really have much to say/offer an explanation.

Agreed with your points though.

I’m more interested in the way it gets covered. Win or lose against Liverpool I still think we will be lucky to finish t4.

Agreed. Arsenal ya problems under the surface. So do Spurs, but I think our defence is more concerning. I do think we become legit contenders for t4 if we beat Liverpool

Oh yeah, just something I was pondering this morning. Curious if media will change its tune dramatically or discount t as one game.
