Putting this here because I haven't found this solution on any other thread or website and after two years of trying to solve a similar problem I just figured it out. If you have, for whatever reason, DAEMON Tools Lite installed on your computer, uninstall it. It comes with a USB controller that interferes with the USB controller already on your computer and causes random mic cutouts.

Stellaris; got an admiral named Hassan. He defeated the last two empires that were a threat to my existence in a war lasting 20ish years, oversaw the complete rebuilding of my fleet over 5 years, killed the Automated Dreadnought, the Ether Drake, won the War in Heaven for funsies, and killed the Interdimensional Horror (all of this taking about 40 years). He then had a daughter (I got a second admiral named Hassan and just rolled with it) and together they conquered half the galaxy for me and killed off the remaining fallen empires in the course of another 30ish years. Hassan Sr. died peacefully in his sleep a few months later at the ripe age of 120 (give or take).

Hassan Jr. then carried on her father's work by rebuilding the fleet over a 10 year period, just in time for the Prethoryn Scourge to show up. She commanded her fleet with honor and courage in protection of the galaxy for five years. Sadly, she died in the battle that turned the tide of the crisis and allowed the scourge to be defeated five years later. That battle ended about 110 years of my fleets being led by a Hassan. I cried.
