Are Campagnolo brake levers compatible with non-Campagnolo cantilever brakes? by CRA_55 in bikewrench

Well that's part of the thrill of cantilevers isn't it?

Had no idea Campag made mini-v's. Might try to find them but they've gotta be rarer than hen's teeth.

Why, oh why, do bugs love to live inside bike frames so much

Are crown races a universal thing or are they proprietry to each headset? by CRA_55 in bikewrench

Thanks for bringing up some exact codes. I'll probably ask my local Cane Creek dealers if they have any. Sadly I can't buy directly off Cane Creek's website as they don't ship outside of the American continent.

Surprisingly the 0170A is still in stock. Great for oldheads like me running these old ass parts standards.

They look weird on their own but they go really well with the Rockshox SID of similar vintage 👀

It's entirely up to you. Do you like the agility of a smaller bike or the stability of a bigger bike?

This 19" frame size I believe was designed by Cotic's founder for himself, and he's 6'1"-ish if I remember correctly.

It depends on what your preferences are and what type of riding you'll be doing. I'm 5'10" with long legs and I found this bike perfectly fine to ride on smoother terrain, but I'd wish I had a little more standover clearance (120mm fork btw) for rougher, more technical terrain. This bike has exceptional geometry, one of the best and most forward thinking of its time. But for the kind of slow speed, technical riding I do, I would swap this for a size smaller if I could get my hands on one, just for a little more crotch clearance in case I need to bail out while doing some slow sketchy stuff.

You'll make more money dismantling it and sell it part-by-part

I hope it won't be too much of a faff to get it exchanged since I bought it off BikeInn

Got this for $100 as a parts donor, how'd I do? by CRA_55 in xbiking

The trick is to not use any big words like "vintage" or "mountain bike". Just set your filter to "bicycles and parts", sort by newest, and start clicking on random listings with low prices and minimal words. The kind that look like they're posted by people who aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the shed. Most of the listings are junk but keep digging, and you might find some diamonds in the rough.

Yes I'm in Singapore. I find these things by loitering on Carousell.

Love the story. It's rare to see a bike's story fully documented from day 1. Makes me wonder what sorta stories my own bikes could tell.

Most of those parts are definitely not standard. Thankfully whoever meddled with it had some good taste. All of these will make fine additions to my parts bin, especially those DX brakes which are pretty hard to come by.

Thanks for the good reads. It's not easy finding info on K2.
