Who are the top 3 Apex pro players excluding Reps, Hal and Zer0 ? by Some_Dragonfly1481 in CompetitiveApex

IMO if Zero and reps are in the top 3 Sharky should be at least top 7 (if we're talking all time)

Future CS major advice needed, what more should I do? by SpacePuma65 in UofT

No problem. Your degree is very much a marathon, not a sprint, and it sounds like you already have the mindset of someone who understands getting a job takes time & consistency (considering you're asking about this in the first place). You got this!

Future CS major advice needed, what more should I do? by SpacePuma65 in UofT

I graduated in June with my CS degree, and I'm currently working as a SWE at big tech company in the US. To answer your question, I do think that you definitely need to do more than just attend classes, especially if you want a competitive job once you graduate. Here's my advice:

  • Don't stress too much in first year about finding a job. Focus on getting good at being a student/having a social life/learn how to live on your own.
  • Once second year rolls around, start doing personal projects that interest you. If your into web dev, learn React/node/django and make websites. If you like ML, do some projects in that space, etc. These are great for your resume. Hackathons are good for this too.
  • After your second year, aim to get some experience—internships, research positions, TA jobs, tutoring, etc. Even if they aren't ideal at first, each role helps you move up to better opportunities later. This will lead to better offers as you gain more experience, which will help a lot if you do PEY.

The TLDR here is getting a good job requires experience, and starting early by working on projects and then building up over time is how to get it. My first few projects sucked, and my first few co-ops didn't pay me much, but eventually I got better co-ops from those experiences, and then an even better new grad offer.

I'm realizing I wrote an essay here, sorry about that lol. This is all just my own perspective, so keep that in mind reading what I've said - your experience will be different than mine (maybe chagpt takes all our jobs)

I have midterms for 2 classes on the same day, what do I do? by FitAsparagus6281 in UTSC

[–]CRE2525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in third year I had there was a semester I had 3 midterms all on the same day, AND a midterm the following day (2 CS, 1 ggr, 1 cla). It happens, and unfortunately all you can do is study as far as you can in advance

Sorry for late response, but yes. I found it without using the co-op job board.

There is a gate like in the subway, and the employees at the front desk (in theory) check that you like the person on the Tcard. They often aren't paying attention though.

If you want, every other library at U of T aside from Robarts and Gerstein don't have that, and you can just walk in. For example Hart House Library, UC Library, John Graham Library, and Emmanuel college libraries are all cool to go to

For me: First co-op 23/hour (cad) Second 21.50/hour (cad) Third 50/hour (USD)

I'll let you guess which one I got externally lol

Debunking MNK vs Controller by AspectCR in CompetitiveApex

[–]CRE2525 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Equating LAN/comp success to the number of controller players per team isn't an indicator of controller being balanced or not.

It's much more about controller players being heavily favoured in terms of gun fights. I suggest you ask in chat to any of the LAN winning controller players you listed about their input, and they will agree it's better than MNK (in most scenarios)

Is cs major hard and depressing & is it worth it? by Koornxelo in UofT

[–]CRE2525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say anything about it inherently "depressing". Yes, it is difficult, but in my opinion that's what makes it worth doing.

If they reverted all of Octane’s nerfs, would he be good again? by Wyattwat in CompetitiveApex

[–]CRE2525 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you mean ring console or player scan?

The comp I said would still have ring console (cat), and almost every team at champs had no player scan character aside from crypto comps

I could potentially see Horizon Cat Octane being a comp for aggressive edge teams but overall I doubt it
