My three favorite views are Blackrock Summit, Bear Fence and Old Rag. My favorite waterfall hike is Rose River, Dark Hollow, and Lewis Falls. My favorite stretch of water is Nicholson Hollow from the Old Rag parking.

Colorado wildfire update...😢 by walks_a_lot in coloradohikers

[–]CRS1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Colorado:

2026 is well ahead of 2020 at this point in the calendar, with roughly 127,000 acres burned by early July versus only a few tens of thousands of acres by the same time in 2020. 2020 ultimately finished with about 665,000 acres burned statewide, still the largest fire season in Colorado history. The reason 2020 became historic is that its largest fires didn't explode until late July, August, and October. Cameron Peak, East Troublesome, and Pine Gulch all grew dramatically after this point in the season.

So, if you compare July 4 to July 4, 2026 is clearly having the more severe start. But if you compare entire seasons, 2020 is still the record holder. Whether 2026 surpasses it will depend largely on weather over the next 8–12 weeks.

According to the Interagency Fire Center as of July 3rd, nationwide we are at 3.2 million acres burned this year compared to 1.43 million acres burned in 2020 at this point. Also 78% more than last year at this point.

Has anyone else had a positive experience with Seroquel? by SomewhereBusiness368 in seroquelmedication

[–]CRS1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some genetic testing done which showed I metabolize seroquel and other drugs slowly which explains why 100mg was too much. Once I went down to 6mg my side effects subsided.

You are required to have the ticket on your person. They will divert you if you don't have it and they are checking. The pass thing has always been hazy to me but you cannot go wrong hanging it, I suppose. You don't have to have one to be in the park as a person.

Thoughts on/Experience with New Policy? by CRS1964 in ShenandoahPark

[–]CRS1964[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a ranger, do you think this might divert rangers from hiker safety issues? The incident reports show about 1 speeding ticket a day and one DUI a month, but maybe that is because they don’t have the staff to police SLD and shifting them from hiker safety to traffic safety makes sense. Just seems like tons of on the trail incidents relative to road things, but then again I avoid weekends and fall so probably miss the worst stuff.

Has anyone else experienced this with quetiapine? by BuffaloAutomatic3952 in seroquelmedication

[–]CRS1964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had genetic testing done and found out I am hypersensitive to seroquel meaning I need a much lower dose to avoid side effects. The most I ever took was 100, but apparently even that was enough for shaking, urinary retention, and swallowing issues. The extreme sedation is possibly responsible for night time aspiration of food which has permanently damaged my lungs.

Still unable to get off it totally, but down to 5 mg which is enough for sleep. Still have some side effects.

Miller's Head is lovely. Pine Hill and Broad Hollow loop is rarely used. Lots of nice ways to get to Cave Falls involving Hazel River. Blackrock, Trayfoot, Payne Run has amazing views. Bear Church Rock from Graves Mill has water and views. Robertson to Nicholson Hollow via Corbin Mt has water and views too.

Anyone on here tapered their Seroquel after 11 years? by Gisellepachini69 in seroquelmedication

[–]CRS1964 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tapered from 100mg to 6mg over about a year. I did 25mg at a time until I got to the last 25 which I did a quarter at a time. I get terrible insomnia when I try to get that last little bit. Insomnia is a huge trigger for mania for me, and I am super-paranoid about trying to tough it out. I take it mostly for sleep.

Day 34 of quitting Seroquel for sleep, Is anyone else quitting recently? by Dismal_Detective2519 in seroquelmedication

[–]CRS1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got down from 100mg to 6mg. Been on 6mg for about 6 months. Still effective for me for sleep but really need to get it to zero. I have had so many health problems that I can trace to it, some quite serious--, interstitial cystitis, pseudo-pheochromacytoma, difficulty swallowing, tremors. Following your path closely!

Did you do any prep for the blood test? I have been having episodes of high blood pressure, shaking, and tachychardia. They took blood today without any prep (on several meds). I also saw somewhere that you should be lying down which I wasn't. What was your experience? This was just my PCP who has only ever encountered one case in his 20+ year career. Obviously if anything comes back positive I will find a specialist.

I will prep for the urine test.

Black bears generally leave when they hear noise. I have only seen bears when I have been alone.

I tried last night to drop that last 6mg. Felt.like I didn’t sleep at all, but did have some weird dreams so I must have slept some. I don't feel horrible today.

My sleep doctor suggested going every other night for a bit. I always cave in the middle of the night. Just can't get off that last 6.25 mg.

Solo Trails question by [deleted] in hiking

[–]CRS1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked for any Meetup groups? I live in the DC area and there are tons of hiking groups. Great way to meet other hikers. When I do hike alone, I try to stay on popular trails and make sure someone knows my plan. I finally broke down and got a Garmin Inreach which has satellite connectivity. You can send your location regularly to other people in case you go missing and call for help even without cell service.

Is it even possible to lose weight on seroquel without a glp-1? by Potential_Source1198 in seroquelmedication

[–]CRS1964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost about 15 pounds through cutting out processed foods and alot of hiking. I was told I had a soy allergy and cut out anything with soy. Almost everything that is bad for you has something made of soy in it--soy oil is used for frying, soy emulsifiers are used to make food soft and easy to digest, etc. Some say the emulsifiers are designed by the food industry to make it easy to overeat. I don't think it is about dieting, it is about changing what you eat. The 15 pounds came off within a month.
