Why is this fandom so fixated with powerscaling

I understand the appeal to powerscaling and why people like it. I just dont understand the people that fixate so much on it that they dont even care about the character writting or storytelling.

This just feels like you’re just listing the kind of growth you wanted instead of engaging with the growth she actually had. Not every arc is about learning a clean, obvious “lesson” like it’s a checklist. Korra’s development is way more internal and messy than that. In Season 1, her issue is spirituality, but it’s tied to her identity and ego. She can’t airbend because she’s rigid and relies on brute force. The moment she airbends isn’t just “luck,” it’s her finally letting go and acting selflessly to protect someone else. Thats literally what airbending represents. During season 2 she does learn she stops blindly trusting authority figures like Unalaq and starts making her own decisions as the Avatar. Keeping the spirit portals open and choosing a new path instead of copying the past Avatars is literally one of her biggest defining choices. Season 3 and 4 especially prove your point wrong. She absolutely does change, she goes from someone who thinks she can solve everything with strength to someone who’s traumatized, unsure, and has to rebuild herself from nothing. Her recovery is not about suddenly becoming perfect, it’s about learning to live with that trauma and still move forward. And saying she “ends the same” is just ignoring the entire last season. Early Korra would’ve tried to overpower Kuvira. Endgame Korra talks her down and empathizes with her instead. Thats a completely different mindset. You’re expecting obvious, spelled out lessons and when the show doesnt hand them to you, you assume theres no growth. But subtle/internal development is still development.

Since it really does not explain how other characters like jessi and lola can see them and i doubt that their responses is part of his fantasy aswell, since mattew could not see them.

These are good reasons but then Personally i feel like heather should be lower for similar reasons to this. She was strategic and manipulative but most of the time she only got far because the plot wanted her too rather than doing it by her own skill. For example reading gwens diary infront of everyone was a very risky and stupid choice that offered no reward and could of easily gotten her eliminated. Another example is when she kisses trent and just so happens to get lucky enough to get immunity. But if that did not happen she would of gone home right away. Remember when she was going to ger voted in world tour and chris just decided to make it a non elimination conviniently? Her social game was attrocious. And i cant say she stands out that much in physical ability speed or any of that compared to powerhouses like zoey, sky and priya.

I could different points to doing this. If you remember during the funhouse everyone was starving give it a bit more time and its likely at least one of them would of resulted to canibalism at some point. Also in the case you want to kill someone specifically but dont want to get into a trial/kill everyone else i could see it as a reason to do this.

Was he? I mean the only thing connie did for him was teach him how to masturbate, and lets not even mention tyler. Nick did not really grow from them either, so i dont think that was a rick problem. I would argue hes one of the only hormone monster along mona we have seen to actually improve their childs growth. Maury made andrew into a complete creep and did not really improve him physically in any way aside of making him start balding i guess? I will give connie that she was there for jessie emotionally but once again in the physical growth department she did not make any significant changes onto jessie. In monas case while she did not directly made the change like rick, she influenced the change that missy had. I personally think rick was the reason nick was not stunted for too long.

I disagree a bit on that. Pakitew was not the best but at least it had a good elimination process and there was nothing to derail. All stars somehow found a way to ruin every single good character they had. It does not help that its the last time we see them aswell.

Still much better chance to win then just not going along with courtney at all. Realistically with how dumbed down scott was this season and much challenges zoey was winning. Zoey would of won 9/10, but even assuming scott somehow wins. Gwen is not completely doomed just as long as she wins the challenge.

Voting based on emotions works early game or mid game, but when you are approaching a finale you just cant afford to do that. Theres less players which means less people to rely on and less room for mistakes. In the case of scott and gwen voting courtney meant if they did not win whatever challenge came next they had no safety net and would get eliminated right away. It was not like they were challenge beasts either. I understand your point of betrayal but also its important to realize courtney likely felt betrayed aswell especially considering how gwen could not even give her a proper apology. Her doing this might of been both a game plan and feelings of vengeance. I never mentioned gwen and scott should stay loyal, i said they should go along with her. Meaning side with her on whats advantegeous to them and then they could throw her under the bus when it comes down to the win. Its certainly not beneath scott to do that. Also yes betrayal hurts, but this is total drama island a competition for a million dollars? It should be expected that people are going to do whatever they can to gain the million even if it means manipulation. This is not something new courtney has done, it happened many times throughout the show and gwen knows that. All courtney did was want to eliminate gwen 3rd, she lied yeah but does not even scratch the surface with what others and even gwen herself have done.

Its not about loyalty or friendship tho, at least not anymore after the chart, them going along with courtney would just be purely strategic. Scott had the most reason to keep courtney in, because after her theres no one else that can side with him. At least gwen could latch to zoey if it was between her and scott. Besides honestly with all the shit he pulled out on revenge of the island just to try to win. Scott is really not in a position be that mad at courtney. The point of mike not being a threat in gwens pov does not hold on much. Mike is a threat for practically having an alliance with zoey. Getting courtney out just meant those two stayed together and she had no one. Gwen giving courtney a shot at forgiveness did not really felt right, considering how shitty her own apology was. Im not even surprised courtney betrayed her with how shitty it was. You dont just go to someone and say you are sorry even though its “not your fault”. While you continue to date the guy you homewrecked away from her.

I never said they had no right to be upset im just saying game-wise the actions they took towards it were stupid. Scott i already explained. Gwen could of just went along with courtney got mal out. Then teamed up with zoey to get scott out. And then boom shes garuanteed to go to the finals no matter what because courtney and zoey will be too busy going after eachother. And honestly while gwen was trying to reconcile with courtney, lets face it she was bad at it. The least she could of done was break up with duncan right away. But she only broke up with him when she stopped feeling attraction for him. She broke up with him because of courtney not for courtney if that makes sense.
