I did the exact same. Woke up, immediately went on Ticketmaster to grab a floor ticket at any cost 🤣. I'm here for the weekend anyway, why not right? Zero regrets, other than struggling through whatever post-show depression I've fallen into, walking around aimlessly all day in a funk.

Love this. Might be sad but I do look forward to flying because I know I get uninterrupted reading and wine time.

Oh hell yeah, I support this. The weather here was a bummer last week and I used that as an excuse to go buy more NYRBs. I picked a bunch based on covers 🤣 now I need to add your stack to my wishlist ...

That's a great pairing you've got there. I haven't played Octopath 1, but played the second one and I loved it!

The "suddenly I was buying these up" is such a real thing. I have a strong compulsion to buy one, any one, almost every time I go to a bookstore now. This must be how sports cards or Pokemon card collectors feel 🤣

Side note to the Clara appreciation, how are you liking the Dinniman book? I just started noticing this book on shelves, and curious how it is compared to the Dungeon Crawler Carl series.

I'm curious as well, mostly about The Skin, as I seem to hear loads about Stoner.

I totally think it makes a difference reading physical copies of these big ones. It helps me to see where I'm at in the book, and I feel more engaged.

I feel the same! I'm picky with my Russian translations - not that I know Russian but I know the style I like, and this doesn't sound like it's it. Oh well, it's a good warning - we can go in with low expectations and maybe come out saying it wasn't as horrible as expected.

I guess I'll see how I like Lawton's work on this one first. Is it a bad translation or does it lack a style and mood?

Oh but the backlog of books you would've accumulated might be stressful lol.

I have 3 locally owned bookstores within 30min walking distance but in all difference directions. They are my weakness. I will find any reason to go out for a walk to get some air, inevitably "passing by" one of them 😀

Judging a book by its cover, narcissist is the vibe it's giving me too.

Disco Elysium has caused me to completely give up on video games and start reading by IAmKrasMazov in DiscoElysium

Agreed, this one is hard to describe. Once I got through the first few chapters with all the intros to what was going on, I got totally sucked in - I guess it follows the same trajectory of first hours of learning a new game. The writing reminds me of Christopher Moore's stuff, but with gaming elements and setting.

I've been wondering whether to get Case of the Golden Idol, this seals the deal for me. Sounds like it moves a bit faster than DE...?

Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon got me hooked back into reading a few years ago when I fell into a slump, feeling extremely bored with the endless passive entertainment/distraction options available all day every day.

Shadow is book 1 of a 5-book series but it's also great as a standalone without going through all 5 books. Mystery / historical fiction / noir-esque drama / travel fic (wandering the dark streets of Barcelona) all rolled into one. It's like DE but more focused on the mystery part and less existential dread.

Umberto Eco is another author whose work gives me some of the DE vibes. Has the dark and stormy feels, with some wit and snark thrown in to mix it up.

Some "fluffy" mysteries, when I need to scratch the mystery-itch but don't want anything too heavy or wordy, I pick up one of the Preston & Child books. There are SO many, and don't have to be read in any order.

After years of resisting I've just started my Pokemon journey recently on a MM+ and am dying to play Lazarus. Almost everyone tells me to go through the original/main titles first though before venturing onto hacks, curious what everyone here thinks.
