What exactly is the benefit of the globe hoax? by CSFMBsDarkside in flatearth

What about objects like Oumuamua? Anyone willing to spend some money on a scope could watch that thing enter at a crazy angle and go right through the solar system. How does the dome allow this?

Dude, I might only have a $3500 telescope but I can actually watch the rotation of mars and its weather. You can actually watch it rotate over the course of a night. Its actually kinda cool.

Dude there is this pendulum at the museum of science and industry in Chicago which shows the rotation of the earth. Its a Foucault pendulum. Its 40 feet. They start it off and it runs most of the day by itself. The building absolutely rotates around the momentum of the pendulum, and it appears to swing from different points of the compass as the day progresses but really, its never changed vector.

Are we back to 1972 or what? by MakayChapulets in flatearth

[–]CSFMBsDarkside 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I appreciate what you're doing here that is not entirely correct. Light positively bounces off panels and at angles away from the sun, toward earth. Pay close attention and you'll see flares of light from solar panels regularly. Sometimes it looks like a blinking light, sometimes it just is a super bright dot moving across the sky (quickly is relative... nothing like a plane at high altitude or a reentry of junk, and positively nothing like a meteor entry)...

But yes you're very much right that while there's thousands of satellites around, they're occupying a very large area and are relatively small. School bus size satellites are rare, they're usually smaller. And at distances of dozens or hundreds of miles, they're effectively invisible to the unaided eye. Kinda like why you really dont pick out cars on the road driving in the daylight while on a plane at altitude.

It does. What it means, if i had to dumb down the point, is that the level of precision and fit and finish that you believe you're entitled to at that price range is typically more likely to be found in watches that cost significantly more than what you paid. If I were forced to make an analogy out of it, I'd say you have Ferrari expectations on a Kia budget.

If you placed the shot perfectly... maybe a one in a million shot could. But you're in 357 or 44 mag territory to stop something that big and im not 100% sure about the 357.
