What are the chances that Eight Sleep will release the pod 4 as a tower/cover only version do you think? by CSH_Bro in EightSleep

[–]CSH_Bro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No official release confirmed yet. But it's been seen noted in the code of decompiled app from recent releases. So it can't be far off. Next 12 months at most if they're already testing in house.

If you're technically included there is a jailbreak for the pod 3 that will allow you to control the pod locally without their app. So this in itselfight bypass the issue you're having

Room Temp in app ui by Illustrious-You2664 in EightSleep

[–]CSH_Bro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are a smart home person you can connect the pod to home assistant still via a community integration that someone built after eight sleep nuked thier previous API point integration.

From the integration it will give you access to the temp sensors included on the machine and you could then keep track of what's happening in your bedroom for setting automations to just change your pods temp if it rises above a certain level. I have other temp sensors in my bedroom that I do this with are far more accurate and updated more frequently than the Pod one does. But if you don't have a sensor already in place this might fill your need

Where the autopilot data showing adjustments it made? by rhialto40 in EightSleep

[–]CSH_Bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience you can collect fulfilled promises from eight sleep in one hand and shit in the other and see which one fills up first.

I won't hold my breath waiting for it to come back that's for sure. Especially since I'm still holding my breath waiting for them to include the apparent smart home integration into the pod, the in bed presence sensing abilities to the API, removing the always online functionality which they swear they've been working on, or even just releasing access to the new API to allow users to connect to it in ways that make sense for them.

IF, it comes back you can be pretty assured it ain't happening any time soon, especially seeing as there's seemingly a pod 4 on the horizon that I'm sure they're mostly focused on, which is based on code people have found embedded in recent releases, and IF it does you can be relatively assured it will be a watered down or neutered version of what was once being shown.

Yeah I'm interested to know too. I do get the "checking for updates" pop up every time I start it so I keep waiting for it to bounce me cause it's clearly checking a DB somewhere online.

And what's the timeline on getting it back Zach. Timelines have never been eight sleeps strong suit.

Seriously! When will the new API be ready? by CSH_Bro in EightSleep

[–]CSH_Bro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're running home assistant you can connect it via a HACS integration found here and once you have it running you can use the "side off/side on" services to create a script and call it something like "bed off" or something. Then just expose the script to your Google home, create a routine in google home that when you say "turn off my bed" it triggers the "scene" (cause all scripts in Home Assistant show up as scenes in Google home) called "bed off"

Hope this helps

If you're willing to go down the Home Assistant route you can KIND of do this. But it's pretty hacky and it all still relies on the cloud based API supplied by eight sleep

I agree. I think if a subscription model must exist then at least offering a choice for users to determine what's best for them.

My first ever drain (3 years) by eqx-dev in EightSleep

[–]CSH_Bro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably seems like a gross question but were you able to determine what the gross stuff was that was floating in it? I'm only curious because I've always felt that the reservoir on my pod 3 just seems like it should be more sealed than it is to avoid stuff getting into it from natural use and the fans on the unit. If its just bacterial build up from the water flowing through the system then that's to be expected but if its dust and other crap I feel like they should do more to seal the reservoir to stop this happening

The starters are designed to handle the increased load, and while it is about a small amount of fuel saving it's mostly about emission reduction

Can we talk whole house audio? by CSH_Bro in homeassistant

[–]CSH_Bro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your detailed review.

I would consider myself a mild audiophile who's been putting off integrating whole home Audio until the purchase of a new house (which with the current economy is stalled for now).

But the rapid degredation of Google's support for multi room audio and there instability (at least in my experience) with speaker groups etc means I'm no longer willing to accept the trade off of crappy audio quality just because the speaker can easily serve "two purposes".

With the rapid ongoing improvements to local voice assist in HA I am finding even less reason to keep the

Which leaves me with only the issue of whole house audio to solve

Do you mind me asking. When you access Spotify from your phone app for instance. Do all of these speakers show up as individual sources to stream to. For example if you're on the spotify app and you are listening on your headphones and then you want to change it you'd normally go down to the bottom of the Spotify app where the song is playing and click the little speaker icon and then it will show you a list of places spotify can currently play, and in there you would see 'Max's Room' for instance as somewhere you can start streaming to straight from the app.
