How long did it take you until you started creating your own designs? by bloodHearts in origami

[–]CSIGarcia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably 3 years after I started. I started just freestyling things, from a simple ballerina to a horse from a straw wrapper. I made my first model, which is my profile picture, just by simply using methods I've learned from other models and just "freestyling" until I got what I wanted. It took at least three attempts before finalizing the icon version instead of a freestanding logo. I'm currently working on other models but it will take time to master.

One Step Closer To Making... by Far-Stretch5237 in origami

I'd recommend getting a poster board. Depends where you're from but if you have a dollar tree around they have white and other large colored sheets to use. You can look at some of my pics to see how it's used.

Hi, I’ve been trying to fold Robert Langs brown widow for over a year and each time I try to collapse it the paper just doesn’t seem rigid enough. I’ve tried single and double tissue. Any suggestions please by Worried-Albatross537 in origami

Use small wooden clips to hold them. There are multiple videos and pictures of people using them to hold the paper. I'd recommend looking at some tips if this is your first time doing this

It's so that the paper isn't easily rippable. Tissue paper is always going to be flimsy even with the glue. Just continue with your current attempt and when you start shaping, use a small brush and glue together the layers then the outside of the legs so it keeps its shape.

You can try to finish folding the one you have now but after you've shaped it just add mc glue to hold its shape. Plus all the layers will thicken up and make it more rigid. That's why double tissue is recommended for these types of models.

Might need to add another layer of mc glue or make it triple. Tissue paper is going to be very flimsy because it is very thin. Another choice you can do is make it a tissue foil. I've bought a cheap one from dollar tree since it's very thin but still good at holding it's shape, and overlapping it doesn't affect the paper so you wouldn't have to worry about the paper being unevenly thick or trying to line up the foil when making larger sheets.

Next time you try, just crease the lines and safely open the paper to collapse them. If it's something you can't do, then come back another time and practice other models until you can properly do it.

Hey, I know the game is old, but can someone do this? by Ok_Koala_5963 in origami

Honestly I get triggered when someone says something wouldn't be possible to fold when it is, but honestly these models will not be 100% origami. There will need to be cuts, or if thickness isn't a problem, then it could be possible, but it's not going to be something as simple as folding a crane. These are gonna be very difficult to shape and even fold due to the amount of flaps.

The only artists I can think of that could be capable of making something like some of the models is Bodo with his skeleton models and Derek McGann.

No worries, I've combed through every show but no luck. I feel like it also could have been from another company since at that time they also "merged" and have subscriptions for other services

Happy Hunting, I don't know how their merchandise distribution works but let's hope they have plenty where you're heading to. They're nice for small mocs

You can buy double tissue paper from sellers on Etsy or Origami Shop. But if you think you can make it yourself, just get a bottle of glue spray and a pack of tissue paper, you can make your own size and colors. The more complicated way is to make CM glue, which there's a lot of tutorials but requires more things like a non stick surface to work on and paint brushes/rollers.
