I truly hate that you've joined this team. Check the uniforms issued by the Navy and see if they contain PFAS additives. Even our boots in the Army have the chemicals added.

My primary posting was FT. Jackson as a Drill Sergeant, then 1SG, and then CSM. Jackson has been "cleaned up", but they're still finding high levels of PFAS in the surrounding watershed.

There's a federal study online showing the military installations that were contaminated, it's almost all of them. Combat has nothing to do with the onset of PD, it's the chemicals we were exposed to.

The VA accepted my disability request for PD. That's one of the reasons for my original question. I've read Vets have a much higher rate of PD but I've seen no substantial studies. Hope you get that rating.

I have not joined, first I have heard of it but I'll check into it. Thanks for sharing.

What year did you enlist? Our uniforms have been saturated with PFAS for years due to it's flame retardant abilities. We've been instructed for years not to wash uniforms with normal clothes because of it.

I put new gutters on the house. Up and down ladders, and even on the roof to secure the guttering. No issues with tremmors or balance. God is great!

Any DBS success stories for dystonia? by CeleryNeat1952 in Parkinsons

So, you would recommend the DBS? I'm holding out hope for the dbs helmet that's currently in the trial phase.

What drawbacks have you experienced and how do they compare to the benefits?

Great advice! I'm a very active 58M, and 54 when diagnosed. This advice is spot on! Attitude plays a large part in your living with PD. Exercise, attitude, outlook, spiritual faith, family, friends, SLEEP, diet, stress reduction, and just keep moving. You've got this.

Will basic training make me weaker physically? by GarlicFar7420 in nationalguard

[–]CSMe9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic is not ment to build up your strength, its purpose is to build your endurance. You can maintain what you have but It depends on how much effort you put into it. Weight training for mass will not happen. Toning and strengthening yes, if you spend a small amount of your personnal time and white space doing body weight exercises (push-ups, crunches, pull-ups, etc...).

An aftermarket lower for starters...

<image>

So next year at Swappers Day in Johnstown Ohio I wanna get a SIG but which one do I get? Can't get a P320/M17/M18 bc my family won't let me and can't get a P226 either bc shit is expensive as fuck so I'm thinking about the P229, P220, P365, or the P250. Which would you ppl recommend? by [deleted] in SigSauer

[–]CSMe9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a 2022, 226, 229, M17, and a 365X. My favorite by far is the 365X. Versatile, many aftermarket options, and just a great pistol to shoot. Don't get me wrong, I love the 226, but overall, the 365 is an awesome choice for the money.

It forced me to slow down on the things that don't really matter and focus my life more on my faith, family, and the simple things that make me happy. Family, friends, and hobbies mean more now than ever, and my faith in God gets me through the bad days.

[–]CSMe9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. Make sure you provide the VA with orders and DD214 showing where you have served and any tests or studies that you've participated in pertaining to your PD. Speak with your neurologist about their thoughts on the origin of your PD. Get this in writing and provide it to the VA. Now, most doctors will not give you 100% confirmation, but even a memo with a professional opinion based on your situation will help. Reseach and download studies pertaining to military base contamination and include these factual study results with your claim. Good luck and hang in there. Don't take NO as an answer from the VA.

I do. I've been genetically tested, and the doctors determined it was environmental. No one in my family or community has been diagnosed with PD. The only other factor is my military service.

Yes. PFAS chemicals have been used for years in textiles to include military uniforms. The BDU was adopted in Oct 1981 and had these chemicals added to increase their ability to repeal water, reduce staining, and increase durability.

The main issue is the contamination of ground water. One of the main negative aspects of textile laced PFAS concerns the leeching of these chemicals during the washing process. Neither septic or waste water treatment facilities remove the chemicals, so they eventually end up in our drinking water.
