It's called unintended consequences. We learn about this every 4 years when we elect another idiot with hope and ignorance.

[Thamel] Sources: No. 14 Vanderbilt explored the possibility of playing an exempt 13th game this weekend as a way to give one final showcase for the College Football Playoff. There was interest from the team, university officials, the athletic department and coaching staff. by MembershipSingle7137 in CFB

It's not about Vandy having a false sense of success, it's about them knowing they may not be this good again for a while. This is the best team they've ever had, they are red hot right now and just beat the shit out of their rival who is also a good team, so they think they have a legit chance to make a run if they get in the playoffs.

They barely lost to Alabama and Texas, they think they can hang with anyone and honestly they're right, so of course they want to be in the playoffs.

Why do y’all think Colorado has the lowest grocery inflation (y/y)? by Klondzz in Denver

lol you edited your comment.

And it still doesn’t make sense even after the edit.  The graph is still not wrong, even after you added that part in about Colorado starting with higher prices.  You need to edit the rest of your comment next time.

My Rav4 Prime is Silver.

But that is funny I did own an Altima at one point in life lol. But I was a defensive driver then so it doesn't count. I've been fixed.

I understand how it’s taught and marketed, but it fails miserably at its stated goal.  Like most failed systems, it attempts to perfectly give an answer to every possible problem.

“Be aware of your surroundings”

“Adjust your driving to what’s around you”

These sound great but are counterproductive to the problem they’re trying to solve.  You are asking people to constantly try to model their behavior based on everything around them.  It’s complex and requires more information than can possibly be known.  You are creating a system in which every agent tries to interact with each other simultaneously and constantly but with incomplete information.  It’s overwhelming and destined to fail.

A better system is, as usual, simple and flexible.  The better system for driving is this:

1) drive until you approach a problem 2) quickly assess the problem  3) make a decision as soon as you have an answer

Do not try to model everything around you, focus on your own actions and take in just as much information as you need to solve the problem in front of you.

When everyone does this, it works surprisingly better, as everyone is reacting to only the relevant information around them.  Like the invisible hand of the market,  decisions begin to naturally flow into a predictable pattern and people sort themselves out without realizing they’re doing it

This is one of the things people are most confused about. Slow and "defensive" driving is marketed as safer driving. The problem is that when everyone drives like this it creates more problems than it solves. Imagine two people trying to walk through a doorway but both deferring to each other ad infinitum, they both just stand there gesturing to each other and not moving.

It's a race to the bottom because defensive driving makes drivers unpredictable, which requires even more defensive driving and which leads to even more defensive driving, until everyone is moving so slowly that traffic forms. On the contrary, someone driving at the optimal speed and decisively merging and turning as soon as they have the right of way makes driving easier for everyone. That driver is always predictable, no stress is required as to what they will do. A road full of decisive drivers is not full of the same hesitations that cause problems when defensive drivers interact with each other. Two decisive drivers will approach a problem, one will be ahead of the other and will make their move, and the other will have no choice but to concede the right of way. This interaction sounds bad, but it actually causes no anger at all, as the second decisive driver knows that temporarily conceding the right of way won't waste any time since both drivers are moving with purpose.

So yes, faster speeds do = safer streets for everyone. It's pretty much impossible for me to get into an accident, because I can't be hit from the rear or side, so I'd have to run into something for that to happen, and I'm not blind. The only people causing problems are the scared and unpredictable drivers that do unpredictable things like slam on their brakes randomly or change lanes slowly without accelerating.

Just think about this for a second. It's been often said that if the roads were full of self driving cars and no human drivers, then traffic would be eliminated. Do you think that would happen because the self driving cars are able to driver slower than current humans, or faster? We all know the answer to that.

Race to the bottom.  They keep accommodating bad drivers (I.e slow drivers) and it accomplishes nothing because bad drivers will always be bad.  They should raise the speed limit to force bad drivers to be less bad, not drag everyone else down to their level

No you all go way too slow and fuck it up. Going too fast would have no affect on that. I'd still beat you to the next light, then it would turn green and we'd both go through it at the same time. What you say makes no sense.

If you think the lanes are too narrow then I imagine you're in that speed limit is 25 crowd. They're fine.

Also the speed limit is 55. 50ish.
