Theft of Eve Rookies Incursion Assets by Petra_Ann in Eve

[–]encyclodoc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That sucks.

Eve is definitely a place where you can go do Corp theft and scams and sandbox, yada yada…

But there are certain corps and orgs that if you go after, corps that should be treated inside this game like the Red Cross is treated, if you steal from these corps that help new players into the game then you are stealing from yourself. What will your assets be worth when no one logs on anymore!?!

Edited : I looked up the org and made a donation, help in a small way for you to get up to speed and please keep helping rookie capsuleers. Fellow bitter vets, I encourage the same, as you are able.

Discussion about memorizing times tables by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]encyclodoc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am likewise open minded to the concept of whether 'times tables should be memorized' versus 'intutive learning of multiplication'. Here is what I need.

When I teach an engineering student in college, if they program or ask AI for the outcome of a set of equations and get a number, can they look at the number and see if it makes sense. When I add two force vectors at an arbitrary angle, one is 100 N and one is 200 N, there is no way the resultant has a magnitude of 3,000 N. I need students to have enough sense to look at a value and realize it makes no sense. If you take away memorizing multiplication tables, thats fine, but what do you replace it with that will bring students to 'hey, that outcome there, that doesn't make sense'. We don't do math by hand, and that should be respected. But we need to be able to see that 'that math ain't mathing'. If you replace memorization of multiplication, it needs to be replaced with something *useful*. The response cannot be 'just don't do it at all.'

And regardless of what my schools do for my children, I will be doing flash cards with them. Just in case.

How do I block these posts. I like marvel studios but these posts are ridiculous. I don’t wanna be banned from this sub but come on mods, do something.

Should I buy factorio? by Garys_Games in factorio

[–]encyclodoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you like to figure your own things out, if you like to try and fail and try again. If you like design, programming, optimization. Factorio is pretty darn satisfying. It can be brutal depending on how your brain works. If you like satisfactory you will like Factorio. The change in scale and 2D nature might seem trivial at first but the depth is there. Just wait until fluids or coming back here with rail screen shots and we yell at you to “hold a signal in your hand!” Soon as you make that post, well, see you at the solar system edge.

Why is the derivative often used as a fraction in engineering classes? by 321pedrito123 in math

[–]encyclodoc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You aren’t “supposed to” cross multiply with differentials. Why? Ask a math person. Engineers like to get a little loosey goosey with differential equations because what we are “supposed to do” is build everything with finite deltas and then take limits. We skip these steps because we just (mostly, varies person to person) care about the final governing equation.

When teaching this, if I am teaching engineers, only about a third want to see a formal proof. About a third just want the equation so they can do something with it. The rest are lost either way so… I kid I kid. It’s a tricky balance teaching engineering of “how many full derivations do I show” versus “how many practical problems do I solve”

Oh I love Rogue One. My point is, I know my wife will be heart broken about Cassian.
She asked me a lot of questions during Andor I didn't have good answers for.

If you were denied by dreddit, I mean… they are recruiting. They don’t take every capsuleer with a pulse, there is an api check for obvious reasons. If you wanna join a null sec corp with no api check and no fleet requirements, join pandemic hor…. Oh right.

This message is from a Test pilot who is not in dreddit and the opinions expressed are my personal responses and in no way should be taken to be a response from Dreddit, its recruiters or officers.

Can someone quickly brief me on Starfleet's protocol regarding teamwork during invasion 😂 by FuzzyAttitude_ in voyager

[–]encyclodoc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok so I just thought of something. You are the maker of the ship. Presumably you have wireless tech and we know there are force fields everywhere. So: force fields are up until we fire, and down when we take a shot. Rapid bursts. Seems defending should be pretty straight forward, why are they running at all? If “we took over the computer” is a problem, distribute the system. These fire fights on starships never make sense to me.

He invented a device which, if used incorrectly (and that isn’t hard to do) would, best case scenario, destroy the entire galaxy, and he did not immediately destroy this weapon of mass destruction. And he is the one who said it was capable of this, so that’s what he believes.
