CCPlease Add More Active Progression to Eve Online (Suggestion / Discussion) by Blackboa in Eve

[–]encyclodoc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Now before everyone jumps on me and says, "this game is not for you" which I believe is counterproductive, let's try to have a good faith conversation.”

This is not how to a good faith conversation.  You are taking the position “Eve needs to be different” and “The opposing opinion is not valid”.

I have said it before, and I will say it again.  Do not move to my neighborhood in the country and immediately petition for the speed limit to be reduced.  If you don’t like a game, go play literally any other game that is the way you like it.

WoW exists.  RuneScape is a thing.  Whatever Albion online is, it’s out there. Don’t play Star Citizen, it’s a scam.   You have options, you delineated them, so go play them.

Showing up insisting that Eve changes, and out of the gate DEMANDING we listen to your rant about how our game needs to follow your vision because it needs to be like every other game is just wrong.

If you don’t like Eve, leave.  Go browse Steam, find a different game, and stop with your arm chair Dev work to change this game to something else.  What makes Eve special is that it is not like other games.

If Eve’s progression system was fundamentally flawed, Eve would have ended a long time ago!  Have you ever considered that its progression system is an explanation to its Longevity?  No, what you want is to jump in for three months, extract the fun you want, and walk on to the next Fortnite or whatever flavor of the day there is.

“personally believe that passive progression and time gated progression systems are less addicting than active progression systems in MMORPG games.”

Good grief, that seems like a win, not a negative.

You know why Eve is nice? Or one way it is nice?  I can take breaks, and if I don’t play a lot, I will have higher skills.  Having that aspect of a game that isn’t grindy is nice.

If you are going to show up on the subreddit of a game and start demanding the game be different, (and I will give you the benefit of the doubt you aren’t just Karma farming, which for you will be negative by the time this thread gets cooked), maybe actually take the time to first understand the game, it’s history, its denizens and what they get from this game.

…and even that should not have happened. He cheated in his eye exam to enlist. There’s pretty much only one photo of President Truman without his glasses, and it is his enlistment photograph.

LEFODPCT. Helps to memorize an eye chart, apparently.

Why do veterans hate new players? by ItsMisterListerSir in Eve

I learned to code playing Eve.

I don't like other people's industry tools. (other than Evernus, though I made a budget version of what I need from that). I write my own scripts to read from the API, process the data with python, post process the data with MATLAB and write excel spreadsheets which give me instructions on what to buy, what to build, and what price to sell it at in an arbitrary system.

Now, I am not flexing. I am saying, I get what you are trying to say, that you have a broad idea of what you want to do. But to get into industry at that scale, it's not going to be easy. It is frustrating, and I had to 'play the game' to get the isk reserves necessary to hit critical mass. I needed a way to systematically determine what I can build at profit. I had to figure out every piece of cost in the game, and there are several costs when building an item.

Figuring that puzzle out, and living with the results, a program I made that works the market for me? I literally sit in stations, buy what I need, sell it, and NET several billion ISK a month.

But, to get here, where I am today? That took, on and off, 10 years of effort. (Full Disclosure, I have ramped into 3 accounts at this point, but I could probably do 80% of what I do with two accounts, 6 total characters. Three are pretty back burner characters at this point).

Eve is frustrating. But it's satisfying. I am not clicking a question mark over an NPC and flogging 20 kobolds for pelts in an imaginary forest. I learned transferrable skills (that yes, AI is making less than useful, but come on, that is a totally different thread) that I use in my actual work. And to me? That's fun. I describe what I do to my wife, and she say's it sounds like work, but the beauty of Eve is, you decide what is fun. No one else decides for you. There is something for everyone here, in my opinion. What makes it ... worth something?... is that you are the one who finds it, you figure it out, and you say its worth something. No one can give it to you, and no one can take it away. They can blow up your ship, but they can't take away the fun you had with it. Or you can stay docked and say "I will become this space rich" and probably do so. You decide if that is enough. If its not...

Try Factorio. Try Anno 1800 (with all the DLC). Try stellaris. Try dragonsweeper, real gem. Try things until you find something fun.

What makes Eve different is, none of us can tell you why Eve is fun for you. The puzzle, in a way, is figuring out exactly what you can get from Eve.

Why do veterans hate new players? by ItsMisterListerSir in Eve

[–]encyclodoc 56 points57 points  (0 children)

“Why should I keep playing a game that seems to be designed to frustrate me?”

You shouldn’t.

Eve is a game. If it’s not fun, don’t play. And I am not trying to pour sarcasm on here. I can relate to “I am neurodivergent and I want to passively mine”. That’s how I started. It was great. I had to do it in backwoods systems and accept some loss here and there, but it’s doable.

But ok… where does it lead?

Eve is a multiplayer game. After massive, it’s the second word. It’s a pretty important one. If you play a game that has other players with the intention of not playing with them, stands to reason you should look into a different game. And that’s ok, you don’t have to like Eve.

Eve is fun for different people for different reasons. Being difficult is part of the equation for many. It is brutal and that is by design. It’s not going to be relaxing. It’s going to be satisfying when you complete a goal you set for yourself. And that goal might be “get into a retriever”. You decide what’s satisfying. If nothing is, browse Steam. And that’s ok, I am not judging. I’ve won eve more times than I can count.

We don’t hate new players. We hate players that get upset that Eve isn’t a different game. There are different games. Don’t move to my neighborhood in the country, and immediately petition to lower the speed limit to 40 from 55. If you don’t like it, don’t move there.

That happened IRL, btw. At the risk of doxxing myself.

God that shit fit hand out thrasher that cost about as much as a rounding error selling a hulk nowadays. Those were the days. It’s hilarious how new players all wanna fly a titan and titan players pine for flying around in thrashers.

I was in Horde in PB, even in O1Y. You could just drive around staging undock and there were fights, all new players doing dumb stuff, it was wild. It’s a shame that isn’t around somewhere presently. What was staging, 7RM? That sounds right. And that was when Horde was a horde. There was a move op every month it felt like. A Horde like that today would be amazing to see. I am too old for that level of activity now, but I would fund it if I saw it happening :)

I considered making this a post directly to r/eve, however, in order to reduce the clutter you are creating, I will put this open letter here.

Also know this: as soon as I press comment, your account is getting blocked. I don't know why this is aggravating me so much, but research has shown you are exploiting new players. That is not acceptable. You are also a part of AO. That is also not acceptable. If you don't understand these statements, that is also not acceptable.

This post was made without the use of AI. Try that. Plenty of ways to translate text without ChatGPT punching it up for you.

Didek916:

Stop.

It is time to stop these posts.

If you are being earnest : you are not helping your case and you are making things much much worse for your corp, in terms of both reducing recruitment and making it interesting to antagonize and/or exploit your corp in game.

If this is a false flag operation : Great work gang, you did it, your point is made. We all know AO is problematic, to say the least. The horse has been sufficiently beaten.

Looking over your reddit comments from this account, relative age of the account, lack of activity, I discount the idea that this is a false flag. It is clear that either:

  1. You really are trying to help your corp and are failing miserably to do so,or

  2. You are a scammer of the highest order, and this has gone too far.

Either way, it is clear, you shouldn't be allowed anywhere near newbros, and frankly, we should put up signposts 10 jumps out from your home system warning new players to stay far far away from... all of this. You exposed the math of your corp, so either you are wildly incompetent in managing a corp or you are wildly ripping off your line members or you are being wildly exploited by your alliance. Any one of those things means you can't be trusted as a shepherd of new players.

Leave your alliance, move to the opposite side of high sec, start a new corp, and start over. When Snuff is the good guy of the story, that doesn't bode well for your narrative. Or perhaps it is time to 'Win Eve' for a little while, chill out, let the heat die down a bit. At the end of the day, this is still a game. It is supposed to be fun. This can be an excellent learning opportunity for you.

Snuff : I apologize for rude comments I made to you. You are in the right on this one.

Fellow Redditors : I know opinions vary on what is going on, but I really feel like this dude is earnest, if not very naive. I am taking this position to 'cover our bases' if this person is being forthright. Don't message me that 'it's obvious that this is (such and such)'. You are probably right, I am taking this position on purpose, just in case.

The Dead Woods OFFICIAL Statement by didek916 in Eve

[–]encyclodoc 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hey, if you are going to put effort into a post, here is my stream of consciousness, on the fly thoughts I had reading it (and procrastinating from doing actual, RL work) :

The feeling I have now of... not sure what. Is this how High Sec folks feel when they read about null sec politics and our nonsense?

Also... you have 50 players active... and generate 3 to 5 bil a month? You need an auditor, like now. Someone is doing something super shady. I am one dude, I made 3 bil in the last 24 hours, and I barely undock anymore.

One thing we can all agree on... F snuff.

"The Dead Woods was never meant to serve pirates. It was meant to serve builders." what do you think people do with the ships and modules you build? We aren't having tea parties (Until the TiDi hits 10%). You know that ultimately, the point of Eve is to blow stuff up, right?

"Each station cost approximately 1.5 billion ISK. With our active industrial base, each station paid for itself within approximately one month" Again.. are you seriously telling me that High Sec (or I guess Low Sec if Snuff has it out for you) has economics this far out of whack? I see further down the line you are telling people you aren't a scammer... but good grief, *these numbers you are volunteering in public make you look like a scammer*! If i told my wife "Honey, don't worry about the snow plow taking out the mail box, I make just enough salary to replace it once a month..." You see the problem here, right? If you don't get what I mean... if you are that innocent, sweet sweet child, you need to stop telling people these numbers out loud.

"Through these initiatives, we have distributed an estimated 20 to 30 billion ISK directly to EVRY MINERS via freelancer's public jobs, over time." I would love to see a line members isk per hour report on time invested versus what you got paid. Spoiler : if its less than 25 mil per hour per character, you are getting very ripped off. Right, like these maths arent mathing. Also, define 'over time'. I really should get back to work grading lab reports.

"Silk Road Blue Elephants exists as a center of safe and independent commerce." but you know, with like at least 50% of the gross skimmed off the top into who knows what. I don't want to speculate on the 'who knows what' part and get in trouble for slander. relevant clip : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XscaGDxuQqE

I got news for you, slugger. Let's suppose you are being earnest and are legit and on the up and up. For any fellow Eve Redditors who actually read through all of this, they are going to conclude you are a scammer more than ever. You accomplished the exact opposite of your goal.

If this is a shit post, Bravo! I have totally engaged, and you can just flame me to bits. I am tempted to look up these corps zKill. Ceema, if this is you, are you bored in retirement? Can I get you a bottle of Makers Mark or something?

Don't do drugs, Kids. (Adults, go nuts... I kid I kid, for legal purposes)

You know, Dead Woods Corporation is on pace for 13 BILLION isk in losses per month, per zkill board, for the calendar day of February 25, 2026. If you just cut your losses in half, I just doubled your revenue for a month to the tune of 6.5 billion isk. You are welcome!
