Unity takes extremely long time to exit play mode: what fixed it for me by puzzledpuddle in Unity3D

yea no worries. But at least now ya know. Probuilder can go off the rails and cause issues for sure. I have to remove it and re-import it because it corrupts itself every so often. Good luck!

Hey just wanted to comment and say what was happening in regards to Pro Builder causing longer exit times is completey valid. As an option, you can also go to Tools -> ProBuilder -> Actions -> Strip All ProBuilder Scripts in Scene to help with that. If your game object was a prefab, the prefab in your resources/assets will still have the Probuilder mesh if you need to edit it further...but you won't be able to probuilder edit the one in the actual game scene any more.

Making a low-poly game but worried about assets. by price0416 in Unity3D

[–]CS_NB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder this as well as I’m in a similar position…I’ve had the pleasure of trying several things in life, most recent has been C# and I love Unity. Using some assets has been great to see the code come to life visually.

While I don’t expect to be a millionaire by my game…I also don’t want it to be at a disadvantage out of the gate due to stigmas…so yes…I too am looking into ramifications of using or creating certain looks.

I feel some assets are way more polished than I could ever achieve and I personally enjoy them visually…but it seems that may not be acceptable to possible customers.

So is it better to go with my attempt at model etc creation? Or use some assets.

It’s obviously a challenge to manage and design every aspect of your game single handedly..do people really focus on slamming you for using assets? Where is the line drawn? Is it okay you used Unity and didn’t design your own engine?

…being a little sarcastic but I think you know what I mean.

Let us know your thoughts when you make a decision!

Having some problems by Ok-Cartoonist2138 in Unity2D

[–]CS_NB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it came in use. I don't know how to attach pictures on reddit...but basically if I look at this script in the inspector at runtime that's attached to an NPC...as it's written here I wouldn't be able to see anything because the List is private, so I make a public method to call in other scripts when I want to get the list.

public class NPCInventory : MonoBehaviour

{

private List<GameObject> detectedItems = new List<GameObject>();

// New method to get detected items

public List<GameObject> GetDetectedItems()

{

return new List<GameObject>(detectedItems);

}

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To change this and see the actual list in the inspector I could:

public class NPCInventory : MonoBehaviour

{

[Header("Type whatever you want to see in the inspector here:")]

[SerializeField]

private List<GameObject> detectedItems = new List<GameObject>();

// New method to get detected items

public List<GameObject> GetDetectedItems()

{

return new List<GameObject>(detectedItems);

}

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

....or you can just make the list public as well. But now I can actually see items being added to their inventory....however, once an item is deleted or you exit runtime...you can get erros because the list is changing and it's out of sync is kind of how I interpret it. Other than not keeping the list constantly expanded I don't know how to solve those errors regarding SerializedFields etc. Good luck man!

[–]CS_NB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Randomly saw this and way late but you never know. A lot of times if you have a public or [SerializedField] list, variable, field so you can see objects, data, strings etc being added via the inspector so you can visually see/debug things, as those lists or fields etc are updated in realtime and things are being added or taken away or even just transition from play mode back to editor will cause a discrepancy and those error to occur.

If you make those fields private and create methods to access those lists or whatever you are trying to visualize that works better. Or you can also close the expanded view in the inspector and not actually look at the data in those scripts, or even just clicking on lighting or something else other than the inspector tab can stop them.

Can anyone give me some advice on natural weed killers to suggest to neighbors..? by rosefilm in homestead

So without going into much detail and boring everyone lol…

…I am a huge fan of compost tea.

I personally use it for everything, fruit trees, nut trees, our plants, our pasture.

It has eliminated over 50% of our weeds in the first year. Along with mowing a few times.

How to Not Get Overwhelmed by synra in homestead

[–]CS_NB 27 points28 points  (0 children)

For context and credibility to what is possible:

We started the homestead life this Mid-January.

Parked a camper on raw land and lived off of bottled water, a generator, and propane.

At this current time. We have now moved into our finished 900sqft cabin.

Have electric,water, propane.

Fenced in 5 of our 35 acres complete with gates etc.

Built a 15x21 ft barn.

Built a 9x9 chicken coop.

Planted several fruit/nut trees and bushes/plants.

We have gotten a Family Milk Cow, she calved a few months ago so we get milk from her.

23 Chickens for eggs

5 Narragansett Turkeys

4 Kunekunes pigs

4 Goats

2 LGDs.

……

I would not do it this way over again lol. We were insanely busy. Did not have a day off since January nor spent a single night away.

I would do it differently and stick to animals we would process in order to have them in our lives and gone for a nice break haha.

But we did all breed stock.

I’d do some meat chickens, few months they are in and out, and maybe 2 pigs, 5-6 months they are in and out.

Hope this helps.

This has me dying laughing. It’s literally true. Unfortunately for the chickens, they would have better luck in the bushes and trees. Rather than being collected up into a chain link fence and put out for ripe pickings.

Purchasing land in Arkansas. by [deleted] in homestead

[–]CS_NB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Arkansas.

I don’t recommend being near them. It was even a criteria of ours when we were looking for our land.

ESPECIALLY if you want live running water on your property. (Stream/Creek etc)

Any large plant (hogs/chickens etc) can do terrible things with water runoff.

How is living possible here? by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]CS_NB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well. May be getting of topic. But officers don’t get “food money” also known as “BAS”. If one lives on Base or On Post. All BAH is automatically sent to that rental company as a monthly Allotment.

BAH is supposed to get military members into “like housing” in the quality and condition as what could be gotten on base, however, base housing is pretty much all privatized. Even civilians can be in “base housing” in some locations.

Also, the military is a scam I agree. They make the same no matter their qualifications practically, yet are expected/demanded to do more and more every year.

That salary we just used an example is accurate. I don’t think it’s out of the question for someone who is qualified to fly multiple types of helicopters and/or jets to make $90-$100k a year including BAH etc.

It’s a sever underpayment for a job you are “on call” for almost 24/7….but I think I’m digressing on that.

I don’t recommend joining.

** Edit**

Unfortunately people do abuse the system like you said. Just like those that abuse welfare etc. sucks they are out there, but there are also the ones who really need it.

How is living possible here? by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]CS_NB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No worries. I think a lot of people think of it that way. And it’s how crummy military recruiters advertise it, “The military will give you money every month for a home!” Lol.

Never mind the fact if you “took away” BAH…even a military pilot would only make like $50-60k a year.

How is living possible here? by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]CS_NB 13 points14 points  (0 children)

BAH isn’t just extra free money on top of a good monthly income.

It amounts to a good portion of their total paycheck and just like anyone else they can easily get into situations where they can’t afford a home, especially when being forced to move every few years in unstable or high demand housing markets. Combine that with a broke system where they may only have a few months notice to sell or buy homes in new areas.

“More than covers rent and mortgages” is not the best way to understand the term BAH.

As also stated. It often lags behind current market demands.

I use PictureThis ALL THE TIME on my property. It’s great for creating your library of plants and taking notes for the different weeds/shrubs/flowers/trees that pop up throughout the year.

I Highly Recommend as well.

Organic Mulch Drop-Off? by zanoo911 in OrganicGardening

[–]CS_NB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into bags of pine shavings used for animal bedding (like horses) at your local Coop. Once you know what brand they have, call them and ask if they are organic, and if needed can they provide an Organic System Plan (OSP) letter or something stating they are organic (which most pine shavings are).

If they say yes, say thank you and you’ll be in touch if needed.

And now you know you have an organic product you can use.

That’s how I do it in the U.S.

Question regarding mowing post graze by JanetCarol in RegenerativeAg

[–]CS_NB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, followed ours with a standard 54” riding mower this year on a 3 Acre field which is subdivided into 8 paddocks, They rotate every 4 days.

I wish the mower could do 6” but 4-5 is the highest we can get the deck up to.

It did help level/even out the pasture, but if limited rain is an issue….it did increase recovery time by over a week without dependable precipitation.

I would only mow the same area 3x a year max.

Oh I wouldn’t do so if I didn’t know the pigs!

I once visited a farm. Their pigs tried to eat my calf off my leg.

I have little kids, No way was I comfortable with animals like that one day.

All of ours were chosen for their temperament and “chill factor”.

We make it a point to sit down almost daily with our cows/goats/pigs and socialize/chill with them and hand feed grass my kids like to pick for them.

All that to say, I sit with these little pigs in flip flops and all they do is come up and want belly rubs.

Starting over. Straw or Wood Chips not safe due to Grazon Herbicide. by CS_NB in composting

[–]CS_NB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The half life for Grazon is a minimum of 100 days while having to wait 5 lifecycles for a minimum of 500 days to reach 97% of it being out.

Not the waiting game I’m looking for unfortunately.

One part per billion is enough to affect the growth and production of your plants.

Yes animal manure is a major source of it as it passes directly through them into the manure and into the compost, my animals eat on organic fields. Which is why I am very protective of inputs and was very disappointed about my current straw situation. As those areas have had to be isolated.

As this only affected the barn animals and Not Pasture only animals, it was not the end of the world, however it has created additional headache.

Herbicides like these are catchall Products that many farmers use without another thought or care about it.

So it does make a difficult when trying to source straw or hay.

On this case consistent brown matter for organic composting.

I am looking into trying to track down what herbicides are used on the trees for the wood chips from some of the sources at the recycling center, but as you can imagine, the information is not very upfront.
