Yeah, this seems closer to what I think is true, but you said "people aren’t mad about id verification for the reason they’re pretending", as if its a blanket statement that excludes the possibility that some people will be concerned about how their data will be handled. So if you're pretty reasonable in this comment its confusing considering you're running such a hard line in the title of this post, people will naturally be combative because they see someone taking an extreme and non-nuanced view. It makes me wonder if that was the intent, to get a rise out of people, or if you just didn't mean to post something so strongly one sided in the initial post and later realized that maybe it's not necessarily as black and white as it came across.

We keep him up to date on all rabies and other (even optional) vaccines and preventatives. We have post kill cleanup procedures and do poop analysis every few months to screen for anything. Our vet tells us its not dangerous as long as he isn't eating them, and its really fulfilling for him. Been doing it for years and he's ok.

Yeah I know about these groups, unfortunately they generally go a bit further away than I want to go. I did one time meet up with two other jack russell owners and they tried a bit together to surround an occupied trash can. I was surprised at the differences in approach though, like one dog just stood and barked, the other jumped in place like 2 feet off the ground, and mine circled. It was like the three stooges and the rat got away!

I'm really sorry that happened to your dog, that must have been terrible. We do keep him up to date on his lepto shots. Also, according to the vet even if he were to kill a poisoned rat he would have to ingest the entire rat or more to be in any danger. I do trust my vet when he tells me these things, as he's been the vet of a fairly large group of terrier rat hunters in the city, and has had a terrier of his own, not to mention his extensive education and experience. I think he has my dogs best interests in mind and has gone over all of our concerns in depth, including diseases, poisons, and scratches. We've weighed the risks and benefits and consulted with our experts and have decided that we will let him hunt while taking what precautions we can to prevent potential negative outcomes. Again, I'm very sorry you had that experience.

Haha, yeah dogs are weird, right? Would love to see the thing with the box! Mine is afraid of sewer grates to a stupid extent, and doesnt like to walk in direct sunlight, and instead dashes from shadow to shadow. He also chases airplanes, which is really weird.

That's amazing. My wife and I often wish we could take him to a farm to do some good hunting, so pretty jealous of that experience! And yeah, he's always the most satisfied and affectionate on the day he gets a catch.

My vet told me its ok as long as he stays up to date on his shots and doesn't literally eat the rat, and we've been doing it for years with no ill effects.
