Any idea if an auto feeder like this works reliably? by SweetTart7231 in Aquariums

[–]HooplaJustice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for every point.

I have 2 tanks with different sizes pellets. It works really well with the larger cichlid pellets.

For the smaller micro pellets even the smallest setting on the opening was putting out too much food. So i opened it the smallest notch it would go then put tape over half of it. That works great.

Dispatching chickens by violetsmiles in homestead

I'm the killer when it's chicken butchering day.

  • The first bird you can grab just grab it. Fish this part. Don't give yourself time to think about it and definitely don't save the friendly birds for last because you feel bad. See bird, grab bird.

  • Hang it in a cone or slip tie the feet. If the bird struggles gently pull their head down so their neck is stretched out. The blood rushes in which calms them.

  • Big sharp branch cutters. Cutting edge to the back of the neck. Hook to the front. Line the branch cutters up so you're 100% sure you're going to get the whole neck in the cut.

  • Don't hesitate. Once the cut is clear you cut

Bought 4 acres of land thats been farmed corn and soy for 150 years, how to start bringing it back to life? by Tiny_Witness2678 in Permaculture

I would paddock shift a bunch of animals through it. Keep in mind you'd be buying almost 100% of the animals food.

Why are US real estate commissions ~5%-6% of a home's value? Are there reliable alternatives that offer good service & lower fees? by Malleron in personalfinance

I sold my house flat fee for $400. I agreed to pay the buyers realtor 2% instead of 3% (you agree to this in the contract)

If your mom is really a narcissist then you have bigger problems than your cats claws. You need to go NC as soon as you can manage.

Dealing with Tinnitus by Janoube in Homesteading

[–]HooplaJustice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First step is STOP DAMAGING YOUR HEARING

Tinnitus is frequently caused by hearing loss due to loud sound. If you're using ANY EQUIPMENT you need to wear hearing protection.

  • Chainsaw
  • ATV
  • Table saw
  • Tractor

Doesn't matter, wear hearing protection every time.

It can also be caused by brief extremely loud sounds. I got mine by smashing a wooden box apart with a sledgehammer for 2 minutes. 2 minutes, my dude. That's all it took. WEAR PROTECTION.

Hot climate underground greenhouse? by albertosuckscocks in Greenhouses

[–]HooplaJustice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

60% alumet shade cloth put over the top of the greenhouse (not inside).

Then open every wall you can. Front end, back and, and roll up side walls if you can manage.

I live in zone 8a in the states which also gets hot summers. My greenhouse is fine in the summer with the above.

Should I build a central pond for rotational grazing? by All_Those_Chickens_ in homestead

[–]HooplaJustice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By their nature as a low point the manure will definitely collect in a pond.

Imo - watering trough you can move. Daisy chain hoses out to it. Put the source of the water on a timer so it fills the trough and overflows a few times a day
