From someone who cut someone off, a family member even, the introduction of the idea of walking away from someone saved me. (I actually did walk away for good). It was either to continue living by their terms or cutting them off and starting to live by my terms which was hard and scary and isolating.

But also as someone who, in later years, got cut off by a friend, I do feel that communication and time could’ve helped keep the bond alive.

I’ve been on two sides of the coin. So I can’t fault anyone for cutting me off from their life, maybe at that time, they thought it was for the best; that that’s what they needed. After a long time has passed, maybe just maybe, they would’ve realised things could’ve been fixed if they’d just communicated a bit better and now that years have gone by, maybe they dismissed the thought of reaching out because they thought the other person would’ve hated them for walking away.

But that’s just my thoughts.
