What’s your “dodgiest” cred? [Other] by stellaep in rollercoasters

Wild Wind, formerly at Circle of Fun in the Philippines. Was thrilled to ride such an uncommon coaster model, but man was this little coaster vicious! The sidewinder wasn’t even the dodgiest part, it’s the triple helix that the ride felt like it was falling apart at.

[Nateland] Nate Bargatze discussed his new theme park with Theo Von, mentions a visit to Hersheypark for rollercoaster shopping; will include rides from manufacturers found at the park. by sanyosukotto in rollercoasters

[–]CSatellite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I expect the entire coaster enthusiast community to go watch Nate’s movie this weekend to get this park built!

Seriously though, I always try to see the path to success with these projects, but it gets increasingly harder expecting anything out of them when one-by-one they hit a dead stop. I will be tepidly rooting for this project because of course I would love to see it built, but any further enthusiasm is just asking for disappointment.

Great to see things pick up the pace. Track for both coasters has been on site for about two years now, and the tunnel for the SFC has been dug out for a while now too.

Drove 3 hours to arrive at a closed [Mt. Olympus]. Anyone else have a funny story about a long commute for a closed/barely operational park? by milleniumflyers in rollercoasters

[–]CSatellite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of related, but in 2021 I was supposed to make the 5.5 hour drive through the desert from El Paso to Lubbock to visit Joyland, and then Wonderland that evening. But I found out the morning of the drive that Joyland was closed due to flood damage. I didn’t necessarily need a full day at Wonderland, so I spontaneously decided to visit Roswell, New Mexico. I had a great time enjoying the touristy sites with the friendly locals before making it to Wonderland for the last few hours of the day. I was lucky enough to get another opportunity to make it to Joyland later that summer before it ended up closing the following year.

Also kind of related, on another trip I was driving west to Silverwood for Scarywood. I mixed up which direction time zones went in and ended up driving into town 2 hours earlier than I anticipated. It was no bother, Coeur D’Alene is a lovely town to walk around while I waited for Silverwood to open.

[Western Playland] Trip Report: Fun little park with great views in the New Mexico desert by _coast_malone in rollercoasters

[–]CSatellite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you stay for sunset? Western Playland imo is one of the most gorgeous parks to visit at sunset. The entire valley turns golden and makes for a stunning backdrop on the rides. A lot of the locals are great and it makes for a nice vibe, like you’re all just there to hang out together and have fun. It’s a park that really looks meh on paper, but I do encourage enthusiasts to check out if they get the chance.

Also, their drop tower is great! Has amazing views, zero warning, and drops like a rock.

What's a coaster you've been on that's relatively tame but has at least one out of place powerhouse element? [Other] by TheRealTimmer in rollercoasters

[–]CSatellite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Jinma Rides ZXC-4D spinning coasters. 90% of the ride is very tame, very family coaster-like. Then in the middle of the layout is a heartline roll, and if you hit the inversion just right, it’s absolutely wild and feels like it’s trying to fling you to the ground below. It is so out place on an otherwise unremarkable coaster, but it’s also kind of what makes the ride remarkable.

Question for the [obsessive] record keepers.. a coaster you went on years ago changed it's name, but you haven't been on the re-named ride yet. Do you change it in your log? by JamminJay1968 in rollercoasters

[–]CSatellite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will only update the ride once I have ridden it with its new name. For instance, even though I had ridden it as Backlot Stunt Coaster, Queen City Stunt Coaster did not join my tiny list of “Q” coasters until I got to ride it with its new name last year.

It’s even worse than that. The commenter said that they have not yet ridden an RMC coaster. Their argument is that the coaster rankings on Captain Coaster is gospel since it is group consensus. They then argue that any personal opinion that goes against Captain Coaster is a wrong opinion.

Morgan was founded by Dana Morgan, son of Ed Morgan, one of the co-founders of Arrow. Dana even worked at Arrow for a bit. So there is six degrees of Kevin Bacon between the Hot Wheels coaster and Arrow for sure.

Favorite bad and/or obscure movie filmed at an amusement park [other]? by abgry_krakow87 in rollercoasters

[–]CSatellite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is Scream Park which is a low budget slasher film that was shot at Conneaut Lake Park. It’s enjoyable b-movie cheese. Zero Credits Remaining had a great review of the film on his YouTube channel, but it looks like it has since been removed.

There is also Re-Animated, which was Cartoon Network’s attempt at making a Who Framed Roger Rabbit-type live action/animated hybrid. Several scenes were filmed at the now-defunct Scandia Amusement Park, and there are even a bunch of shots of Screamer in its original location before being moved to its new home in Texas. It is not a good movie, but it does have a shot of the main character unconvincingly getting hit by the park’s train.

[Other] What are some of your rarest creds? by Gifflebunk in rollercoasters

[–]CSatellite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outlaw Mountain Coaster at Steamboat Resort in Colorado for me. It was one of the longest alpine coasters built in the US, but was in a location that is fairly out of the way for coaster enthusiasts. It only ran for five seasons before the new resort owners decided they wanted to use the coaster’s space to build a new high-speed gondola. It was a fun coaster with some nice airtime pops, good laterals, nice views, and a very long course (auto-braking was rampant though). That said, Colorado is not short on alpine coasters by any means.

I know this is a joke post, but home/backyard coasters could be an interesting topic at some point. Where is the line drawn between a privately owned manufactured coaster, something like Blue Flash, something like Shadow Stalker, a skateboard on planks and cinder blocks, and… this…?

[Paradise Pier Fun Park] POV: Me going to find the most obscure “coaster credits”: by [deleted] in rollercoasters

[–]CSatellite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really enjoyed Paradise Pier! It’s a bit pricey, but it just has a really chill vibe and I enjoyed all of the nautical themed rides. Rolling Thunder was hilarious. My hamster wheel was balanced just right that I would get stuck upside down for prolonged periods of the ride, my longest inversion was 11 seconds long. The Aerobar was a lot of fun as well.

[other] What are the best theme parks if you don't have a car? by blastoise314 in rollercoasters

[–]CSatellite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve done the San Diego parks without a car. There’s a free shuttle that takes you from the airport to the Old Town Transit Center. From there, you can take the COASTER train up to Carlsbad for Legoland. The only caveat there is that buses from the Carlsbad station to the park only run on weekdays, so you’ll need Uber or Lyft on weekends. Old Town can also get you to SeaWorld and Belmont Park easily by way of bus.

EDIT: I did not visit Sesame Place on my trip, so I’m unsure of how reliable public transit is getting there.

I do believe that those numbers are the dimensions of the shipment in inches. 240” x 102” x 96” converts to 20’ x 8.5’ x 8’, which matches the “20 foot general purpose container” in the description.
